Over the past three months I conducted some research into the noted above. There are no outlets in the Okotoks/Calgary area, let along Alberta, who carry these optics. Therefore, I researched on line the history of Meopta along with reviews from gun writers, hunters and shooters. Information was found on talk forums, gun writer blogs and You Tube. 99.9% was positive feedback on the product, many stated that the optics were just as good as Zeiss Victory and Swarovski V6 series. The big kicker is: Meopta is half the price of top-end Zeiss and Swarovski. Meopta manufacture in house, ALL of their products, whereas; Zeiss and Swarovski farm out their glass.
Anyway, I decided to roll the dice and purchased the Meopta R1r 3x12x56 RD. This scope has a 30mm main tube and a illuminated dot within a plex reticle that has 7 brightness settings. The price of the scope is equal to the Swarovski Z3 4x12x50 with a plex reticle.
Upon receiving the scope I tested it against the noted Swarovski. Well, Meopta wins! Needless to say I purchased another, same scope but with their illuminated cross hair within the plex. It has been mentioned that Meopta is "the best kept secret" with optics. Shhhhhh, don't tell anyone, but these premium optics are best bang for your buck.
