Why is that Meopta is carried by so few dealers in Canada? From what I've read they are one of the best built scopes at budget price points. Are they basically a Zeiss Conquest?? Im tempted to buy one but have never held one and prefer to get a hands on feel before I buy.

Cheers!!

i have two, just bought a meopro 4-12x50 and love it
and would buy another
cracking scopes for the money and well worth investing in.
budget brand not a chance.

dare i say this, but scorpion is a budget brand

There are Meopta models for around $500 or less. You are right in a sense they aren't budget but I wouldn't start with anything less then a $400 optic....BSA, Tasco, Scorpion are junk,,not worth mounting on anything but toys. I can say this from years of buying stuff like that.

Cheers!!

If you can get to Cabela's look at their Euro line optics. They are made by Meopta. I don't know if Cabela's Canada stocks the riflescopes but the binoculars would give you some idea of the optical quality. They use the same glass and coatings ("Meobrite".)

They had issues in the past like every other brand out there. The biggest problem in the past was the distributor in Canada, they did not do good for the brand. The new distributor Canadian outdoor Distributing will take care of the clients.

Definately not a budget scope, as a matter of fact the Zeiss conquest was mentionned in the first post. Meopta used to manufacture OEM scopes and the Conquest was one of them until they decided to get out of the OEM business.

Unfortunately the problem these days is people buy scopes brands that have a great marketing scheme, but not necessarily the quality or scope building knowledge behind them. Meopta has been manufacturing high quality optics for over 80 years, that should speak for itself. I know of a few brands out there at the same price point that do not manufacture their own scopes, they import them from offshore somewhere, and only have been in the business for about 10yrs.

I've had a Meopro 4-12x50 on my 25-06 for 4 years and its an outstanding scope. Would buy another in a heart beat.
Have two Scorpion Venom 3x9, one on a 10/22 and one on a 22 Hornet. They are just fine for that and don't break the bank.
Night Force on my custom 338lm.
Buying a scope is all relative to the end use in combination with your available $$.
