Meprolight vs trijicon / glock sight heights

Hey guys, i cant believe what i just did today, i got my first tupperware striker fired handgun.
Having previously owned a 92FS, 3 shadows, a 9mm 1911, and currently owning 2x .40 1911s, i wanted something to play IDPA with to make a diversion from IPSC and wanted a guest gun for the range (im not as scared of them dropping the slide on an empty chamber or roughing it up)

I went with a brand new G17g4, it has 4 extra backstraps and 3 mags packaged for 799$+tx.
The sights are the only mod i wish to do, because the rest is good and functionnal for what i wish to do, and factory sights are not impressive.

If you guys had the choice, would you buy meprolight sights or trijicon sights? And why?
Myself, from the little research i have, seems like meprolight are supposed to be brighter, and trijicon has a big orange front sight that helps with front sight focus.

Edit, i have changed title, as on page 2 the thread will obviously take a new direction. I thought everything was a-ok to order new sights, but decided to try the glock before changing sights. I was surprised to find a 6'oclock hold to shoot correctly, and do not wish to shoot a gun that way.

Since i have thinkered with 5 different fiber optic rods at some point, i know my brain is natually inclined to focus on front sight when its red

I will look into heinie, rackable sight is a must, this will be a tactical firearm
 
Upgraded to Mepro here on my G22 gen 3...the dots have larger white circles around them so they are easier to see in the day, good for combat type shooting. The Triji that came on it were the originals and getting pretty dim, but even then the dots were pretty small compared to the Mepro. Not to mention Mepro run $95 per set which is a pretty decent price.
 
Oh that orange is so bright, thanks you have facilitated my choice.
As i know my brain well enough that it prefers red/orange to yellow/green.
Now for glock they say out of stock, anyone know where to get these?

i have a set of trijicon hd night sights (yellow front) that im selling on EE. brand new, package still sealed. its the GL101Y

edit : nvm I was always looking in pistol accessories for sights, never looked the other sections
 
Hey guys, a new detail is comming into play.
Between these sight, what does the POA/POI look like?
I just tried my G17 tonight, i consider myself not a bad shot either, and it was shooting quite high with factory sights.
Best group i got was 7/8"-1" at 10yards, shooting at a white 1" ipsc patch, my group was 4" higher than the patch.
I would not want my night sights to do the same, i am sure this has nothing to do with the famed glock grip angle, as these were very slow shots using all fundamentals.

I also do not wish to get adjustable sights, as i want to keep this one tactical and actually have a sight racking gun.
 
I shoot steel at 25m for the most part, rarely shoot paper. I have HD's on a Colt RG and 2 M&P's. As far as I recall, POI is POA. I remember missing when I was shooting the plate just below 6 o'clock. I'll have to try on paper.

on paper, POA is POA for me at 6-10m too. (yes, im a noob)
 
I will have to look into it, for now i am putting the night sights venture aside, and figuring out sight heights.
My factory rear is a 6.5mm, and am shooting a group of one inch and less at 10yards. But 4 inches high.
Just ordered a glock factory rear sight from Questar. They call it a minus1, and is 6.1mm high.
This should bring my group down, and what the heck, the sight only cost 8$!
If this one shoots poi/poa on target, i will measure both sights and check height differences, then i will compare with the night sights (ill actually have you guys measuring for me!)
As spending 160$ for nice sights that require a 6'oclock hold would be a damn shame, as i also try to shoot competitively and now is not the time to try new aiming techniques.
 
Do you walk in to a shoe store and ask what everybody is wearing before you buy your shoes? I don't think so. Same applies to sights.
Your eyes, your shooting style and other factors will dictate what sights work for you.

It is going to be expensive, and that is the only way to go unless yo have friends who can lend you all these sights. Buying mepros or trijis because everybody else here says so is plain dumb.
A sight picture standing at the range is one thing but as soon you add a bit of action to your shooting style and you are shooting under a time constraint you will find that a sight picture works better than other. Your posture, how good your 'eyesight' is, how your brain processes all this information, will change how quickly you can pick those sights up. In other words you can't judge a sight by standing at the shop and looking down the barrel, you have to shoot the pistol with the sights and somewhere along the way (100-300 rounds of action shooting) you will know what you like the best.

I've tried the trijis, the mepros, ameriglos...
All my Glocks have a GLOCK metal rear sight and red/tritium front (ameriglo) with the standard GLock width and that works better for me than anything else... it might not work for you.
I might change to a slimmer front a one point just for giggles.

Thats why i have ordered a 6.1mm glock polymer rear sight.
If it shoots POA/POI, then i will have measures to start off on.
Because i do not think, by experience with my competition 1911s, that different sight brands will have my changing poa/poi, granted that they are the same height and width.
At this point, i will keep the 6.1mm factory minus one sight for a while, until i actually see someone with a factory glock night sight.
As i know they would be in the same specs as my polymer ones.
 
Alright guys, i would please need help.
One guy with a Trijicon big dot front, and one guy with meprolights.
Please measure your sights in this fashion with a caliper and give me measurments.





I have received and installed my minus one glock rear factory sight. Which is 6.1mm instead of 6.5mm. Now POA/POI is dead on for me.
I was super impressed, got a glock17 to group 3/4'' at 10 yards, unsupported 2 hand shooting, right on my white 1'' patch.
Now with the new sights i have measured as shown on the pics, here are my measures.
Front : 0.165''
Rear : 0.165''

Please give me a hand here to chose the night sights that will fit the bill ;)
