Mercy killing: What would you have done?

The Lord put you in that spot for a reason.

I don't care to meet the mo faw that would not take the shot in those circumstances.

Rock on!

I heard of a guy who did just that in Ontario with a doe he found that had the front of its face shot off. He killed it, tagged it and called the MNR.

They issued him a new tag and took the deer. Apparently it had been wounded for some time.

Not sure if this is fact, but just what I heard.

Yeah, a lot of guy's did advise calling the MNR, but that wasn't really an option I would consider in this case. The deer was in good health & I was happy with the meat which is my main reason for hunting, although @ this stage in my hunting career the trophy bug has bitten me big time & I know there is a big buck in my hunting spot. Hopefully he survives the Winter & will be even bigger next season!

You could try archery, theres still about 6 weeks to get the buck of you're dreams and prolly plenty of tags at you're local MNR.:D

I've wounded a deer and lost it after tracking for some time, for me the scope was off by 3' and the animal was lost. If someone had shot the animal afterwards I would have felt much better.

Shoot it immediately. Here's the rule in SA. If a buck is wounded the hunting stops and everyone looks for the wounded buck.

Some farms also have the additional rule that if you put a wounded buck out of its misery you have the choice whether you want that buck or not. If you take it, the guy that did the wounding must pay for it!

I know anybody can wound, but if you shoot away the lower jaw of a buck it means you went for a headshot that you should not have taken, for a variety of reasons. If the distance is too long or you do not have a solid rest, dont shoot for the head. Rather go for the vital triangle just behinf the front leg.
