It remains an SKS. SKS reciever, SKS gas system, 5rd mag, same cartridge. All you're really doing is adding accessories and changing the trigger group. If you use the S/A only lower you're fine, because the FAL only has a registered main reciever, unlike AR's and the f/a and s/a are NOT interchangeable. Confirmed by RCMP techs.
It's a metric sh*teload of work to do though. Conversion costs about $600 in parts, completely ignoring cost of labour and tools.
