I have not posted anything intresting in awhile so heres something diffrent.

My Merwin & Hulbert in 44 Russian/ sp is all ready to shoot.
gun is like new has great suction still.
the gun is 44russian/Sp and im gona shoot it soon.
Theses DA M&H Pocket Army guns are very hard to come by in 44 Russian
It needed some touching up inside as well the frist notch on the hammer wouldnt hold at the frist notch for loading it... its all as good as new now super tight i plan on keeping it :) Now i meen it this time LOL its to nice and rare to sell.

Theses DA M&H are hard to find most are 44 40 there insides are very complictated the action is smooth like a WG in SA and DA.
I have another one with the normal type grip thats DA to but need another barrel for it.
Anyway enjoy the pics (the gun is way nicer than theses crapy pics to) its like 98% orignal nickle bore is like mint so im hopeing it shoots great as it looks and feels.

Dingus, sorry for being a bit of a tool, but how does it open? Looks like it turns and then the barrel pulls out with the cylinder?

Thats Correct it twists sideways about 15 degrees then ya pull it forward.
The ammo if unfired normally stays in the chambers and wont fallout but the fired cases are shorter so you can shake them out and keep the loaded rounds in the gun.
the gun has suction and wants to pull shut by it self. which is really neat.
That picture with the 44 Sp cartridge in there is just to show its 44 R/SP normally when the guns barrel pulls forward the cases get held back on the recoil sheild.

There slow to reload like a SAA Colt or remy 1875 but fast to unload.
There stronger than the top break revolvers as when shut up tight theres 0 movement thats how good it fits together its like a soild frame when shut.

That projection around the lanyard hole looks like it would be excellent for cracking heads!

This is truly a fighting gun; were they sold to military or civilians?

It is a good thing Dingus is not my neighbour, otherwise I would be guilty of constantly breaking one of the ten commandments that goes something like this, 'Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's antique pistols.'

Its called a Skull crusher grip.
Thats what it was used for to!
No military sales but alot of gun fighters in the late 1800s like wyat Earp and others went to the Merwin & Hulbert revolvers later in there lives.
Jesse james used a M&H as well, same as this one almost.
I can see why,,
the fitting on the parts the smooth action,
and as far as ya cant reload it as fast as say a schofield if the frist couple shots dont keep you alive then your dead anyway in a gun fight one on one.
unless you were hunkered down shooting at hostiles or in a charge the fast reloading is not as big a issiue.
Its a toss up for me i really like the schofield revolver as much as this M&H.
The M&H are more intresting is all.

Win 38 55 i dont have that many revolvers maby 5 keepers but there all pretty nice guns.
I need to get out to the range more often tho its a crime to not fondle and shoot them more.
