Mesa Tactical or Tac Star side saddle?

I've used both the Mesa 6rd Side saddle and TacStar 6rd Side Saddle and I like them both. I find the Mesa slightly heavier and found that it fit my rounds quite loosely. The Tacstar is build well and if you squeeze the holes together you can get the rounds to fit really tight. I actually give the tacstar a slight edge. :D :stirthepot2:

Give it a year of real use, after they loosen up and start crapping out shells, and the mounting bolts back out

Ummm....the MESA's come with two retention rods, the softer one is black, and is what comes installed. The white "thing" in the packaging is the hard one, and it REALLY holds 'em....in fact, too well for my liking.

When did they start doing that? I bought mine over a year ago and they only came with 1 installed black rod in each

I've been using, for the last 20 year, an Adventure Quartermaster side saddle on one of my 590s, that pre dates the Tac star, with no trouble at all.

Also have a Mesa unit on another 590, like both of them, they both do what they're designed to do.

Eta: thinking it's outpost and not quartermaster. I'll have to have a look and see.

Same here,wonder if they'll upgrade older one's?

I know it's out of scope of your question, but I like the velcro saddle BBB/S&J sells. I found the Mesa too heavy for the balance of the gun, made it want to torque. Being able to put it on or rip it off at your convenience is a big benefit to me - you can go from storage to ammo on gun in a blink. You can also buy 4 or 5 for the cost of the Mesa, and Mesa actually makes a similar unit too, if you must have Mesa. I still use the LEO stock with the Enidine buffer, and have their buttstock carrier for it, but don't have it attached.
