messed up bullets with pic now

Red heat or red hot isn't something lead does, best to get a thermometer of some kind to figure out what your temps are at. It will help things immensely.

it definitely gets a glow in low light conditions with proper application of heat. try it with a torch. doesn`t last but is there. i need a pyrometer for aluminum casting, so i`ll be getting one eventually.

Not the solution you want .. invest in a cheap hotplate .. will keep your mold at temp while you torch your lead to a reasonable/proper temp ..

I use a lee melt pot and mold and my first 20-25 casts look like that until the mold is up to temp. Then all is good. I usually just cast right back to pot for the first bit.

I use an electric burner set at max heat, works out perfect. Checking temp I bought a cheap Infared Temp gun. Usually best mould fillout around 750-800F
