Messed up finish in CSA VZ 58 Bolt Carrier, what do?

Hey all!

I messed up the finish on my CSA VZ 58 bolt carrier. I was wondering what the metal was on the bolt carrier and whether anybody can give me any advice on whether i should have it cerakoted, or what I should do.

just leave, the surface finish will wear off to a degree overtime anyways, just make sure you always have it lubed before putting it away.

It looks ugly as heck. Imagine if you had a large tire sized patch missing paint on your car door. I want it fixed

you can glass bead to get it to a uniform finish.

Then,

Black oxide

parkerize

Nitride?

Tin Coat?

Depeneds how much you wanna spend after at this point.

Glass bead should not hurt it at all, but may not remove whatever coating is on there but probably will, and is your first step I would say

pointless IMO to cerakoat your bolt. Do you look at it when you shoot? Prob not. Only time it gets looked at is when its removed form the gun, so really waste of money to have it look good. Its like trying to polish the pistons in your cars engine

Cold blueing has worked for me fine, Just clean the area well before doing it. You will need to go over it several times.

Its cheaper to probably sell your bolt on EE and buy a new one then duracoating/cerakoat it. Their 100$ on ebay.ca right now.

problem is the bolt carriers on ebay and dlask are milsurp so their finish is grey not the CSA black I need. Im thinking since this happened a first time a new bolt would just do the same eventually even if I never use aggressive cleaning agents like I did. As such im reasoning I should invest in fixing it now rather than just replacing it.

Media blast it and parkerize it.

The CSA bolt carrier's are cast..... Blueing doesn't work too well on that metal, best bet is to have it professionally parkerized like it came from the factory.

I have had mine for almost 2 years now and use everything on it and thats never happened. I think they may have left oils on the metal when painting. Looks like a manufacturing mistake.

Try sending a pic to north sylva and explain the situation if you have warranty left, they may cover it.

On a side note how do you like that bushnell on their? Hows your accuracy a 100 yards.

Spray paint it flat black, some guys will croak when they read this but it works.

How does cerakoting compare to parkerizing? Im thinking to sending it to ATRS to have it cerakoted.

On a side note how do you like that bushnell on their? Hows your accuracy a 100 yards.

Its decent, I dont know if I ever seriously tried to get good groups with my vz as I dont look at her that way..but i dont think theres anything wrong with the trs that would hold you back before the rifle and its tolerances did.

If you want the black I'd go Cerakote myself

Their was a grath I seen stating Cerakote was much more resistant then parkerizing, I would cerakote unless parkerizing is way cheaper. You could also consider getting a professional dip job for camo over the whole gun.

Or, you could just get the whole gun dipped in titanium gold
