Metal guide rod for p226

I was wondering if you guys with new p226 pistols were buying metal guide rods for them ?
I don't really like that plastic one and I'm wondering where I could get a metal (maybe stainless) one.

they're plastic now. i would definetly upgrade if you could, all i've known are the metal ones.

You could machine one easily if you have access to a lathe or you can buy the Bedair tungsten guide rod If you want more weight to control muzzle flip.

first thing I upgraded mine with a stainless guide rod on my P226R Elite SS
my original was black metal not a plastic as in new batches of SIG P220 SS

Got mine from Jeffsig (sigpower website). He makes the guide rods and upgrade parts for 22lr sigs. You can probably find some in canada though,..

The regular P226s come with a plastic guide rod? How far back in the production line does this go back?

I think mine has a hollow steel guide rod.

Where did you find the manufacture date and was it solid or hollow?

It's Solid.

You can find the manufacture date on the blue box it came in.

One of the things I appreciated about Sig pistols was that, out-of-the-box, you had a shootable pistol that didn't require the owner to drop additional money in basic upgrades. To me, having to replace a plastic spring guide rod is pretty basic and I am disappointed that Sig decided to go this route.

Well... the general consensus is that it doesn't affect reliability or performance, but I do agree that it's disapointing, Sig is cutting costs...

Glock ran on plastic guide rod for a while, and it doesn't seem to affect reliability...

It may not affect reliablity and it may just be a mental thing, but come on how much does it cost sig to toss in a steel rod instead of a plastic one? A dollar or two? On a $1000 + pistol it's pretty dissapointing for them to cut corners like that.

Checked my box and it was made in June, 2009 and still came with the plastic rod and it's an Elite model.

WOW ok guys the plastic rod is a upgrade over the metal tube style rod. I have seen plenty of the metal ones crack at the rim.

Perfectly normal, only older model got the metal guide rod

What's exactly is wrong with a plastic rod? Maybe they put it in there to save weight, not money?

Nothing wrong with it. It's as reliable as the SS guide rod.

As durable? I don't know.

Did Sig cheap out to cut cost or was it a move to save weight? No clue.

Does it look better with a SS guide rod? IMO, yes! But beauty is in the eye of the beholder
