Metal Target Paint

Hi everyone.

For those of you who enjoy shooting metal plates... what do you paint them with?

I recenlty bought this resetting target from Canadian Tire...

it's alot of fun, but I quickly shot the stickers off of it... I tried putting new stickers on it, but they would also tear off with every hit... defeating the purpose of the resetting target...

So I bought some spray paint and tried painting them... the paint peels off with every hit too... the target here was fully painted at the beginning of the range session... and this is what's left after only 100 rounds....

So does anyone have any hints for better paint than this?

i use the same paint and just repaint it after every trip to the range.

Did you try sanding the faces of the targets before painting. Roughng it up a little might help the paint stay on longer. Just a thought.

Flat quick dry tremclad in black or white has never flaked off of our steel shilouettes, at least until it is built up really thick.

I use white prime spray.
Usually repaint after every trip.
No big deal, takes 5 minutes.
Use white because I have to have the steel shrouded at the range and
it makes it easier to see in shadow

I used the same paint for a while. The last time I picked up a can they didn't have it so I tried a Krylon Flat Orange, Quick Dry. Seems to hold up 3-4x longer.

I just use whatever color spray I have in the truck. A quick hit before it goes downrange and you're set.

On our Knockdowns we just use car paint, don't bother sanding it down just spray over it. If we are holding a comp then depending how many are shooting, we might even give them a coat halfway through.

On my spinning rimfire targets I ended up painting them with primer red, its cheap and lasts for the day. I do end up painting them with nearly every visit to the range.
