Anyone play metallic silhouette anymore? I shoot big bore with a .44

I’d like to get a new gun. What are your opinions for something for big bore handguns for metallic silhouette?
Something new production and available.
 
The new 8" Colt Anaconda would be great! They're actually better than the old Anacondas as the new ones are truly a Python action and feel great. Tenda has them in stock.
 
^ I agree. That would be my choice. The Ruger RH/SRH would be options particularly if you want to scope it easily, but I prefer the Colt. I guess the Smith X frames are options if you go up in calibres. There are single action options too. Probably hard to beat a Freedom 83.
 
I shot IHMSA for 40 years, since the beginning. The basic competitive handgun would be a .44 Super Blackhawk and 10" barrel if you're looking a revolver class. Production single-shot starts with the T-C's chambered in 7MM TCU. The Freedom Arms are top of the line in revolver, ........ I have 3 in big bore and one for .22 smallbore silhouette, plus an Anshutz pistol also for smallbore. All are capable of 40X40's when the shooter is doing his job!
It's a great challenging game and addictive, lots of practice and spare time reloading. Nothing greater than hitting rams at 200 yards/meters first time out. Try to find an experienced coach to get you going, ... there's lots of tricks.
Good luck, and press your club to try a shoot, even if it's on paper.

They are out there so worth trying a WTB. When they do hit the used market they tend to fetch 3-400 for extra barrels, 6-700 for receiver with 1 barrel and stock. At least they did a couple years ago when Prophet had several.

Like you I was there from the beginning back in the 80's when Elgin Gates was running the show out of Idaho Falls and the "Silhouette" paper was the bible for equipment and results.

As far as revolvers, I started with a model 29, then Ruger 44, United Sporting Arms 357 max and eventually Dan Wesson 357 max.

Like you say 7 tcu in production with a TC was the gold standard.

Unlimited mostly Remington XP customized in various calibers, sights and stocks. Witchita's were probably best but rare.

It was one of the greatest most fun shooting sports in my opinion. Too bad it fizzled out.

Our LGS just had one come in but it has a 30 Herret bbl...Not sure of pricing but probably ~$500

I’m currently shooting a taurus raging bull 8 3/8 in 44 mag. I can go 38/40 if i do my part. It’s not technically a legal gun, but for friendly competition they allow it. I’m thinking I’d like something without a cylinder gap so I don’t have to keep repairing leg armour.
 
Two firearms I can relate to right now.
Dan Wesson Model 44 eight inch pipe.
And a Wichita 1375 actioned target (Palma)rifle with krieger barrel.
Both are bloody accurate firearms.

Trivia: Wichita firearms company has company moto reads like; a day at the range is never wasted.

Sadly the Dan Wesson’s aren’t available new anymore. I sold my T/C Contender and barrels as I preferred the ported 8” barrel 44Mag Dan Wesson. Very little muzzle flip and easy to see the pigs, chickens, and rams drop.
