I just got back from two weeks in mexico, and have a new project. wandering the streets, i saw a policeman standing at an intersection. he was carrying some type of carbine (not familiar with them, don't know what it was), and a 1911 in a chest holster. the pistol had mother of pearl-looking grips, with gold inlays, which looked to be of the virgin mary.

my wife (who speaks passable spanish) refused to approach him to ask him about them. she also forbade me to take pictures, so i can't show what they looked like.

reminds me of the pimpy pistols from romeo and juliet. anyway, i would like to find a 1911, preferably one stamped for mexico or another latin country, and make myself a "catholic" pistol. any suggestions?

they sell all kinds of gold and silver mexican grips just look them up online I cant name all the difrent places selling them.

i've thought about the springfields, cause i have two, but i think i want something a bit different. taurus isn't an option to me, maybe something like an argentinian colt? i don't know. guess i need to do more research.

Is this Colt 38 Super Mexican enough for you!!

thanks a lot, bellero, you just made me change my mind. actually, i wasn't really thinking of a covering it in gold, just want a basic 1911 with "authentic" markings, and maybe a new set of grips.
i wouldn't turn down an example that is already covered in scrollwork, but i draw the line at a giant schlong on my pistol. also, i don't have the money, or the lack of conscience required to get a nice pistol covered in engraving.

Some Mexican inspired 1911's are actually nice, others are a tad too cheesy for me but I don't mind some engraving if it's done by a master engraver.

the gold-plated pistols are all very nice, if that's your thing, but not really what i'm looking for. i just thought it was cool that the police officers in mexico had basic looking pistols, and that they had the freedom to personalize them. the one i referred to earlier was just one of many i saw with different grips, etc.

my reference to the romeo and juliet movie was more for the religious themes and "personalized" touches displayed, rather than examples of what i want. i don't want a pistol that looks like a whore's purse.
