Mexican carry - what pistols are safe for this CCW method?

What common pistols are safe to carry in your waistband without a holster with a round chambered and their safeties (if present) on?

I have read that 1911's should not be Mexican carried but with the grip safety they would be safe even if in condition 1 wouldn't they?

This is in case I need to legally carry in another country and can't source a holster.

No handgun should be carried in a holster that does not cover the trigger. The one possible exception would be single action revolvers.
Waistband carry is an accident waiting to happen.

This is the only one I would trust for Mexican carry.

A water pistol.

Comments about the wizdom of this not withstanding, I'd look for a 1900-1940 vintage "pocket pistol" by Colt. Most are prohib by calibre or by barrel lenght, but they could be carried safely in a gentlemen's vest pocket. Colt made them that way. Not common, but not rare either.

Or maybe a TT33 Tokarev/Browning 1903 carried with the hammer at half-####. Or possiby a Walther PP, PP/K or P.38/P.1 derivative with a manual safety that locks the slide/trigger.

This is in case I need to legally carry in another country and can't source a holster.

If that's the case, you have other peronal security issues to worry about.

I'd say HK USP would be pretty safe...or at least safer than most others. It's one of the few pistols that can be carried de-cocked AND with the safety on at the same time.

Beretta 92 - decocked and with a safety on (trigger would be disconected) - 100% safe. :) In fact it's probbably the safest gun out there...

Also anything with a heavy trigger might be OK...

You guys are joking right?

It matters not how heavy the trigger, or whether a safety is available. Safeties get swiped off and stuff gets jammed into trigger guards. Having the gun pointed at your butt or the good bits makes the posibility of an ND more scary than I would be willing to risk. Plus you also have the attendant risk if loosing the gun. There is nothing securing it to your body. Running, sitting or simply walking will allow it to move about. If you'rr lucky it will drop into your pants and you will look like you crapped yourself. Worse would be the look of shock as your chunk drops onto the floor at the grocery store.
Small pocket pistols had heavy triggers, but were also meant to be carried in a vest or jacket pocket. This would generally have them directed away from the body. Also pocketting would be safer as there would be little resistance to the operation. Waist band retention requires tucking the gun in and risking swiping off a safety or jamming a trigger.

Well, the hypothetical scenario is that a) you need to carry gun (in another country of course) because your life could be in danger and b) for whatever reason, obtaining a holster is not an option. So it all comes down to calculated risk: what would you rather do, carry a gun in manner that's probably not 100% safe or not carry at all.

If you couldn't find a holster, I doubt you'd have much choice as to what kind of gun you could pick...

Oh just find something with a lanyard loop on it, take a piece of cord and wear it like a necklace.

Yessssssss. Nowwwwww yer cool!

No, you can carry a gun in a bag. You can carry a gun in a specially made garment. You can even tape a gun to your belly. But carrying a gun unsafely is a silly option, and loosing the gun because you cannot properly retain it means it likely won't be there when you need it anyway.

I'd tuck a 1911 in my wasitband at about 4:00, I just would not chamber a round.

I've got a commander with an ambi-safety and the safety on the right side actually clips onto my jeans rather nicely so it can't slide down my pants.

A piece of paracord or shoelace with a loop on each end , slipped over your belt can make an INSIDE THE WAIST BAND HOLSTER that won't let the gun fall down your pants leg. This method was supposedly used by WW2 OSS operatives. With the gun gone it is not obvious as a holster.
