I would never Mexican carry. Doesn't matter if it's a 17HM2 or 500S&W, no calibre is good enough to give me a quick ### change operation. Or new #######.

You might look for a pistol that is Double Action Only. A Beretta 96D comes to mind, as it was designed specifically for chambered carry for police officers. The primer cannot be striked until the trigger has been pulled back all the way (a long, long pull).

If you are legal why arent you bringing a holster for your preferred CR carry piece or loaner.
CR isn't Honduras, would love to hear how you are getting legal carry there.

It's pretty easy to get a carry permit in CR as long as you have a cedula (national ID card), CR can be rough, especially at night.
Wow, in those countries intimidation and posturing are generally more important than actual self-defense, so I would choose to carry a Desert Eagle .50 AE up front; Like Eddie Murphy says: "Just 'cause a brother walk with a limp, don't mean he's crippled..." Of course, some who walk with a limp, may no longer "Mexican" carry up front anymore--for reasons...
Mexican holsters are much more affordable and easier to obtain up here nowadays due to NAFTA; however, steel handguns will tend to rust due to swass and swalls...
Seriously, get a shoulder holster with mag. pouches, and a nice, light, compact polymer pistol if you really must CC in a foreign, humid, sub-tropical locale; wear it over a wife-beater (undershirt) and a loose fitting Hawaii shirt over top of that.
However, underdeveloped nations tend to have lax, if any enforceable laws and I would personally opt for a small can of Mace/pepper spray (key chain?) or a taser: some of these countries have twelve-year-old looking children dressed in military garb carrying poorly maintained automatic weapons, and I won't even touch on the security I feel from their well-trained, dependable police forces and justice systems... Nope, I wouldn't CC for any amount of money down there...

I recall that a field expedient Yaqui Slide could be fabricated from a piece of side line. I tried this carry with a 1911 and it worked reasonably well in that the gun could be drawn quickly but it took some time to put it away, so if you needed to fade away quickly, it would be better to simply slip the gun back into your waist band behind your hip rather than fiddling with the cord. A short barrel revolver was another matter, as the gun was top heavy being held forward of the cylinder and was prone to falling out. If you want to carry even a small revolver you are better with a Galco waist band.
The field expedient Yaqui Slide is fashioned thus: Get a piece of non fraying cord of appropriate length for your body size, slip one end under your belt behind the belt loop at your hip on your strong side and bring the ends together. Attach both ends ahead of the next belt loop under the belt. There should now be a piece of cord that runs along the top and bottom of the belt, and the belt loops act as keepers. Now, twist the two lengths of cord clockwise if you carry on the right side of your body, and counter-clockwise if you are a south paw. Once the twist is tight enough (you may have to experiment a bit) slip the gun into the middle of the twist. It will be held securely if it is pushed in past the trigger gruard, and the twist of the cord should press the grip frame towards your body, rather than away. You can draw very quickly as there is little resistance to the gun, and the belt loops prevent the "holster" from riding up.
