I'm looking into buying some non surplus 7.62x54r ammo for the first time and wondered what peoples opinion of the MFS brand FMJ and SP ammo is?

Thanks

A little dirty.

MFS brand FMJ - My SVT does not like it, but works fine in my bolt actions 91/30, M38 and M44.

Hope this helps.

When I had my 91/30 & SVT, that's all I shot. Never had any problems other than it being quite dirty for non-corrosive ammo.

Same, my SVT won't even chamber it. It gets stuck in about half way for some reason. My SVT eats pretty much everything else without complaint.

I have not for that caliber but have shot thousands of 762x39 through my sks ,worked well for me and i found it pretty clean
not one dud ever

cheers

I agree for the x39. Wasn't as dirty as the x54 and ran perfect in my VZ58 and SKS. Never had a problem with MFS ammo.

Haven't used the FMJ, but the SP works fine in my SVT. The only problem I've ever had is an occasional fail to feed. But since I load using strippers, sometimes the top round gets loaded with the rim behind that of the one below it, which is why it doesn't feed. Accuracy wise, I've only tried it at 100 meters, and I've gotten slightly better spreads than with surplus. I'm definitely going to try it hunting next season.

Pretty good for the price. I think they are a bit heavier bullets than most of the surplus stuff coming out of China or the Eastern bloc. Might change your POI depending on what you are accustomed to.

I like it. Fed well in my SVT and Mosin.

I regularly use 203gr SP for hunting in my 91/30, M38, and M44. Both MFS and LVE work well for me with good results. I can't load hunting bullets for cheaper than the 50 or 60 cents per round that I can buy these for.

Shot the FMJ in one of my three SVT's with no ill effect. And the Mosin eats 203gr softies like candy. Actually pretty decent accuracy out of the Mosin with it, I wouldn't hesitate to use it for hunting. Good ammo IMO, the PRVI I've tried is generally a better product, though not as cheap. You will find it somewhat dirty as others have mentioned, nothing a cleaning rod and a few patches can't fix.

I won't use that stuff again.
twice now using the .308 fmj in an m305 with measured .308 headspace I've had bullets lodge in the lands and the powder burn a hole right thru the bullet send shrapnel into the target at 50 yards making me think it fired properly. pulled trigger, bang no click..... hmmmm
looked at bolt, not closed all the way.... yikes good think the norinco receiver's safety features where working....slowly tried to ease the round in with a tap on the oprod and nope, still stopping out of battery...... hmmmm, eject and inspect shows visible damage to fmj tip.... WTF?

so I run a cleaning rod down the bore and out pops the bullet, melted right thru from base to tip and uneven land/groove marks 1/2 way along outside.
still have one of the bullets somewhere... after the second time it happened, I don't use that ammo
