MG34 Barrels out there...

Well, the MG34 barrel is just a threaded barrel. There is notheing special about it aside from the annular rings turned into the muzzle to help shew off carbon deposits.

If you have a sacrificial 8mm barrel, you can (with a barrel vise) thread off the cam-lock and then copy the original barrel's threads from a suitable 7.62 blank, lathe in the annular rings, and re-install your cam-lock section. Indexing won't be an issue since there is no sights.

The biggest expense will be getting a gunsmith to machine the blank and chamber the barrel, assuming you don't have a suitably sized lathe and the skill to use it yourself.

The greater challenge will be tweaking the feed system to make it run properly. You need a modifiedfeed plate:

Portugal also made these in 7.62, though I have never seen one in person - but it CAN be done. The gun itself is strong enough, it's just barrel and feed mechanism swaps & tweaks.
