MG42 barrels?

Guys, while digging through my boxes of parts, I found 4 VERY nice MG42 barrels packed in grease from about 35 years ago that I forgot I had. I no longer have any MG42's, so I'll be putting them up for sale. Any ideas what I should ask for them?

Marstar has them in stock for $125.00 each (8mm). Everything i have gotten from marstar has had original finish, and was war-time era, not post war. So i would assume the same for their barrels. This should give you a base price to work with . Charging more or less, depending on if there is anything particularly rare about your barrel or not. Please post pictures of the barrels, as they did have early war versions which were turned from mg34 barrels, and early style barrel extensions.
This is what a normal/common barrel looks like on the end.

Note the rounded area in the roller locking grooves. If yours are squared, you have something much rarer and more collectible! Disregard my mess of a computer desk LOL

Thanks Michael. Two of mine are rounded in the locking groove, like the one in your photo and two are squared locking lug grooves. The machining is much nicer on the two with squared locking lug grooves. I assume early production versus late war? Here's a few pics. These all have Waffenampt marks on them,other stamps and and the bores are MINT. Definitely not postwar Yugo barrels. One appears to have a chromed plated bore.

Very nice, and very interesting Al! Please do submit a thread over on ht tp://www.mg42.us/ for more information on the non-rounded barrel extension grooves. I could be wrong, but i think you have something much rarer than the "normal barrel" on your hands, and it would be a shame to let them go for anything less than their potential value!

I also suspect the squared locking grooves to be early production. Don't know about the chrome lining though, could it have been rearsenaled? Perhaps also try the Milsurp forum, you should have some good luck on information there too.

Best of luck on finding an appropriate value to your barrels, you have some mighty fine items on your hands ! I have not dealt with this company, but perhaps you could get optimal-value by selling through these guys: ht tp://www.germanmilitaria.com/
