Ok guys this might sound like a stupid question, but Im looking at building an AR with an 18 inch mid length gas system.

What kind of buffer and spring should I use? I cant seem to find any mid length buffers and springs, only either carbine or rifle length.

Been using a standard carbine spring with the Spikes T2 powdered Tungsten buffer. 100% reliable and very smooth. That setup is being used on no less than 5 separate AR's from 11.5" to 20".

I wish it were as easy as "use a standard spring and H buffer"

depends on ammo pressure
depends on gas port size

start with a standard carbine buffer and carbine spring.
If you are shooting 5.56 you can try H, T2 and H2 buffers to make the impulse softer.

Have you considered the Vltor A5 system? my carbine and midlenght runs perfect even with their 6oz buffer on both guns.

I've got a middy length 14.5" and I run Federal AE .223 55 grain ball as well as handloads. Not a single hiccup with the standard carbine spring and a simple H buffer. Ymmv. Have fun. I love middy gas length barrels ! :)

Cheers, Barney
