mid power mil scope options

My S&B 5 -25 X 56mm PM-II cost me about $3400.00 + tax 3 years ago...........best scope I have bought to date.......I looked through a buddies S&B and and couldn't believe the difference compared to the Leupold 16X MK4 I was using............I sold off 2 Leupold MK4s and a custom M14 shorty I built to buy the S&B...........don't regret it at all...............

If you really want something like the Nightforce and your budget isn't quite there, maybe have a look at what you have sitting around collecting dust and have a scope fund sale.........That's what I did..............;)
 
It's kind of like asking "what kind of sports car should I get". If your budget is in the mustang range, some will suggest ferrari. You definitely get a better car, but at a much greater cost.

I hope someday I can afford a S&B.
 
This one has a lot more magnification then you are looking for but when I was looking for the $1000-ish mil/mil scopes this was one of the best deals I could find.
Bushnell Elite 4200 6.24 X 50mm
It is an Illuminated mill dot reticle with .1 mill clicks, FFP. I recently picked one up for about $850 all said and done. (they have about 3 different versions of this one but the model number for the mil/mil one is 426245F)

Another one I was looking for (and wanted but they said late sept for the availability) was the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP. I think ultimately I will switch to this one, it is mil/mil and FFP but is a MRAD (hash marks) rather then dots like the Bushnell which I Think I will prefer. The msrp for this guy is right one the 1k mark so it is a bit more expensive but with in my original budget.

Unfortunately I have not made it out to the range to test out the Bushnell and I don't have quite enough exposure to other optics to give it a fair review but all I can say is I can practically read the gas meter for the house across the street with it =)
 
for the viper, I only see moa turrets listed on their website for the 6-24x50 and the 4-16x50? is the mil/mil something new they've come out with?

If you check out the site they have a mrad and a moa reticle. if you click on the mrad reticle then hop to the spec sheet you will see that the adjustments change from 1/4 MOA to .1 Mill.
There scopes (at least as far as the 6-24x50 goes and looks like the 4-16X50) are turret and reticle matched, if you have a metric reticle you get metric clicks.

As for there newness, when I called about a month ago they said they would start shipping them the end of Sept, but I have not called again to get the updated info.
 
If you are looking for 'fixed power' mildot, target turrets, have you checked out the newer Sightron III line, SIII -10X 16X 20X for around 600.00+ -
 
I have a couple of 2.5-10 Nightforce in both 24 and 32 Obj.
They are great if you want mid range power and some weight savings.
(I recommend the 32mmObj.)

I think they are better than the 3.5-10 Leupy...I own a few of them as well.

The 3.5-15NXS weighs the same as a 5.5-22 so I see no upside in going 3.5-15, but that's just me.
