Mid range tactical scope for .308 bolt action

I'm one of those who just purchased a Savage 10TR. I've been debating what scope to put on top of it. I intend to take it out for target shooting and hunting. I'd like to keep it from $600 to under $1000 including a set of good rings. The better value, the happier I'll be. I'm a fan of mrad. One scope I've been looking at is the Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44, Also the Sightron Siii 3.5-10. I'm open to any suggestions. Looking for advice from those with more experience than myself, which isn't saying much.

Sightron SII Big Sky 4-16 is sitting on my 10 PC, and I am very impressed. About $700 to your door from Hirsch Precision.

I chose it because it is pretty compact for the magnification, and this rig gets lugged around...

 
Wolverine was the best price I found for the Vortex I just bought to drop on my 10TR, they also do 5% MIL/LEO discount.
 
I got the 6-24 sfp vortex from wolverine for my 10 fcp-sr. Way too much scope for 100-200 yards which is maximum distance at my range.
Keep that in mind, 4-16 would have been quite sufficient.
Don't forget to loctite that rail and your rings.

Why are you shooting at a range, is non res hit the bush.

i just picked up a Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 4.5-14x44 MD, has low profile turrets, side parralax and the rainguard coating on it, will be putting it onto my savage 10 fcp-k tomorrow. ill let you know how it goes. for $300 seems like a great deal for. Marketed as a in between of their XT and Elite skus
