Next time at the range, I will try shooting with my middle finger. Just tried dryfiring in SA and DA. Seems my sight picture was steadier with my middle finger doing the trigger work. Googling this topic made me laugh at first, then when I tried it, by George, it works!

Anybody ever try actually shooting like this?

I have an aquaintance who was in the Albanian military. I took him shooting and he refused to use the "proper" finger. I asked him why and he said that finger is only used to pull the trigger when he is shooting at Serbs. I laughed but I am pretty sure he was serious, it was the last time I did anything with him... He did do surprisingly well though.

I remember the movie called "Sniper" starring Tom Berenger.

In the movie, he gets his finger badly injured and amputated.

He has to relearn to shoot with his middle finger for the sequels.

Good movie, by the way.

Pointing the free index finger along the frame toward the target is also supposed to improve aim. I'm working on trying to prove that out.

I tried it. I find that I do not have the same control over the firearm, and that even though my grip is higher on the firearm, I have a harder time managing the recoil.

It may work for some, but I can't get out of the habbit of using my trigger finger.

If you follow NCIS on tv, the Mexican cartel cut-off Mike Frank's trigger (fore) finger.

Now Mike has no choice but to shoot with his middle digit or weak hand. Let's see what the new season brings.

Going back to real life...guess this technique will only work safely with semi-autos as the flash from a revolver's barrel-cylinder gap will flame cut one's forefinger...ouch!:D

This middle finger hold does allow a very high grip and seems to give a higher sense/feel of control. For me at least.

Your middle finger is where most of the strength of your grip comes from.
"...cut one's forefinger..." The edge of a slide will cut it too.

If you are using your stink-finger to shoot a 1911, you might find that your pointing-finger causes the slide release to be pushed to the lever side, usually jamming the gun.:p

IMOH. This technique might used by the very same folks that hold their "Glock Fohtay" sideways.

It's your gun, shoot it however you like (safely).

That's how they used to teach how to shot a Lee Enfield fast, you never let go of the bolt handle with your thumb and index finger and pull the trigger with the middle finger.

I don't often say this, but there is a lot of fail to using your middle finger for the trigger. If you don't have an index finger, or it is in some way not capable of being used properly, then fine, use your middle finger. But if you have normal hands, your index finger is the best choice for the trigger. proper training, practice and understanding of trigger dynamics and sight picture will cure all your ills. If the middle finger was this "magic" solution, I'm pretty sure you'd see the top shooters, of all disciplines using it. And you don't. you see a couple people trying to milk money out of the gullible using it, and that's about it.

I watched a guy shoot a hand gun with his bare feet. This has nothing to do with shooting a gun with your middle finger.

I would think that shooting something/someone with your middle finger is a hate kill. Like you are saying "f@ck you" as you pull the trigger. Oh and someone would have to be watching, and they would think, wow that is so bad ass.

The most infamous example of middle finger shooting was when Jack Ruby shot Lee Harvey Oswald back in 1963.

How about using your index finger but back it up with your weak index finger. Or use your left eye for the sights and your right eye for target acquisition.

This makes me think about how lost I would be if I lost my trigger finger. Better start taking it to the spa and treating it right.

Soon you will see "Julie Golob's USPSA Tactical Trigger Finger Moisturizer" and "Blackhawk! Tactical Rub-A535 with integrated fast-twitch stabilizers"!!!

Agreed.
However, I like to sometimes use my middle finger when plinking with .22 rifle. Never on pistol though
