middlesex double flintlock smoothie

Has anyone done this?

Recreating the Double Barrel Muzzleloading Shotgun, second edition, by William R. Brockway - Track of the Wolf has it.

Awesome! So have any of you learned ones attempted such a project? I have been looking at a breech loading double I own and it looks like the barrels could work...and the rest of the gun? Well, it may be possible to use the locks on a cartridge gun and convert them to flintlock types but what a job!
Any input: comments, pics, warwounds, etc would be appreciiated.

The geometry of the sears and tumblers from a cartridge gun usually don't work well for conversion to caplock, let alone flint. Usually these are rebounding types. L&R make matching left and right flintlocks. Barrels can often be had at gunshows, or from gunsmithing shops. Usually cheap.

So.if no kit is available maybe you could see if middlesex would sell the barrels and hardware sans locks and stock and build from there? It would be less ambitous than Ardents project but within my reach (ha ha). You would not be able to regulate the barrels but it is a shotgun and it has sights so a little Kentucky windage..?

Cheers! Steve

Truth be told, that would only save you some of the easiest work. The barrels and breech plugs is the easy part, making the stock and inletting both locks, trigger, rod channel and entry pipe, by far the hardest. The barrels are just tubes in this case, with flash holes.
