Midlength or Carbine 10.5-14.5"

Deciding which to get with my new lower. Will be used for 3 gun / range blasting out to 100-300 yards.

I think you are going to have a tough time finding midlength 14.5" barrel.

They are generally 16" - I'm not saying there are non but they are hard to find.

I have owned carbines (also competed with) in both 14.5" and midlength 16". Loved them both. When it came time to thin the herd, the wonderfully accurate 14.5" Wilson bbl'ed carbine was sold. It's Wilson barrel thought it was a match barrel. It was a fantastic shooter, even at 500m (not yards) Connaught Ranges.

Now I'm down to a single AR for competition purposes and it's the keeper. Longer gas tube, better gas feeding, gentler cycling process... life is good.

I do have to say that I quite liked the 14.5" stepped barrel since it looked very cool!

Now I like my 16" mid-length since it appears to be an abbreviated 20" rifle barrel with decently looking proportions.

Thanks Barney...i am still sourcing parts. I have the lower but need a carbine stock and upper. It's not a rush buiild so i am waiting to see what i want. No decisions on rails or optics either. I'm leaning towards a 16" midlenght.

For anything serious I'd opt for a 16 inch barrel with carbine or midlength gas system. As for rails I'd look into a Knight's M4 RAS although I'm not sure if they make a midlength system. I like the quick target acquisition of my 4x Trijicon TA31F ACOG but theres lots of optics out there. You might want to look into the front grip that turns into a bipod at the press of a button, questar has them.
