I just got back from my own private Canada day shoot from 19:00 hrs till 24:00 hrs. That's 7:00 pm till midnight for those not aquainted with the 24 hr schedule. It's still light enough to shoot but I ran out of ammo.
I managed 2 X 1/2" groups with my .204, 3 x 1-1 1/4" groups with my .340 Wby, 3 X 1" groups with my Ruger RSI .308, my hornet hates me and shoots patterns barely kept on an 8 X 11" piece of paper. A great evening all told, the mosquitos were fierce but I had spray to keep them at bay. I took 6 rifles to shoot so waiting for barrels to cool woudln't waste time, and had a riot pounding the p!ss out of myself.
I took my Rem 700 .375 H+H to shoot off some old obsolete loads, I took my .340 Wby to try 3 new loads and to fire form some new brass which I make from .375 H+H, my Ruger RSI .308, my 700 SPS .204 and my 799 Rem hornet which was a gift from my #1 son. Oh yeah, and my Brno 602 .416 Rigby which promply split it's stock on the first shot.
Will post some pics tomorrow, too tired tonight. Having a couple glasses of a very nice Italian red wine and hitting the sack.

Sounds like a great way to celebrate Canada Day! But it does raise a couple of questions . . .

What .375 H&H loads are obsolete? Hopefully in your exuberance you didn't shoot up a box of original Kynoch factory ammo.

I'm rather surprised about the splitting 602 Brno stock, not that I'm surprised that the .416 Rigby produces enough recoil to split an unmodified factory stock, but I am surprised that you hadn't taken steps to prevent that given your level of experience with powerful rifles. However you're not alone, and there's a reason why mine wears a McMillan stock, despite having sad stock experiences going back to the mid '70s!

Typical selfish CGN.......no invite aye?............ :D
That's okay, I went fishing with the Oosey dog.
We did great, saw a big ol'cow moose.
The Oosey dog had her sniffed out before she came across the road.
Need to watch the actions of the hound more carefully from now on.
Funny thing about a bird dog, they know nothing about fishing.
Poor thing didn't know what to do in the boat.
There is only so much a dog can sniff.
Then she took a notion to jump over.
Tree times I say.
Last time over she had a nice long swim........ :)
And then she got cold and sat on my lap.
Not sure who was wetter, her or eye....

I finally understand why this forum has a rank "I have no life"

Not even sure what this is supposed to mean?

Personally, I think that it sounds like a fantastic way to spend the holiday! I guess I don't have a life either...bu whatever it is I do have, I enjoy it.

c-fbmi, how is your range illuminated?

I'm guessing it's not, he's in the Yukon and it's about 12 days after summer solstice. :)

DOH!!! My latest Homer Simpson moment. I can't even pretend that I hadn't noticed where he lived...I knew darn well his location.

Thanks for being gentle!

I suspect you are a young man, so all I can say to you is I've done all the stuff that you would consider "having a life" and now I'm quite happy to load up my rifles and spend 5 enjoyable hours at the range, on Suday night of a long weekend.
I'm glad I did, as I awoke this morning to clouds on the rooftops and pouring rain, so now I have to clean my house and process all that empty brass I created last night.
You too will come to enjoy some of the little things and cherish special time alone, it comes with years. So you enjoy the rest of your long weekend doing what makes you happy and I'll clean my house and load some shells.

Hey Boomer, the 375 loads in question are some old reloads from a few years back which were loaded with 270 Win power points which are no longer avaiable as a component. The last thing I need is to pull them and have another box of obsolete bullets on my bullet shelf.
The 602, ya someone should slap me and you are correct I do know better, just being lazy!! Today I get to reinforce and repair a nice deluxe 602 stock, and then full length bed it, like I should have done in the first place..DUH!!!

No it's not yet but there are too many months where I wish it were. As an electricial contractor I may just have to donate some time and materials so the other 9 months of the year we can shoot evening and nights.

I sure don't miss that hornet :p, surprised to hear the 340 isn't shooting better!

Charlie, I think the 340 is actually shooting better than that but I think I'm not holding it perfectly every time. You know, a little tighter or a little slack, I'm just not consistent enough.
I'm not going to miss the f*&#!$g hornet either!!
I found the 204 is SUPER sensitive to touch and hold, but I got her figured now. All groups were not bad but when I really screwed down and paid attention to my consistency she puts them pretty much all in the same hole.
