Well it's been a while in the making, but today I put the finishing touch on my carbine project. I have some leave coming up that I plan to spend at the range getting to know her :D

Here she is:

How do you install that freefloating rail? It replaces parts? How do you torque? I have no idea.

Okay
Drift out the Taper pins (I've found using a routered wood piece and a reciver block is best to keep it from moving)

Pull the flash hider and now unpinned FSGB

Undo barrel nut

Insert Larue barrel nut and handguard nut retaining clip
If using a low profile gas block put it on after you've ensure the retaining clips lock is on
and ensure the low profile gas block is fitted properly (on a typical barrel you need to allow for the gap of the handguard retaining cap -- use some sort of feeler guage to space it)

thread on the handguard and snug up with a strap wrench

screw the retainer on

If doing new parts I will then check headspace - but I never do with parts I've used before

assemble a stripped lower with parts kit
assembel barrel to upper receiver or change barrel
install ff handguard
install/upgrade trigger
make your own cut down low profile gas block

and a few other things. I've read it over many many times and I don't even own a AR-15.
