Just a quick question.

Looking for a new scope and as far as adjustment range, some manufactures give MOA adjustment @ 100y while others give Inches of adjustment @ 100y. What is the formula for converting MOA adjustment to Inches or vis versa so you can compare apple to apples?

How to do mil-dots (one more time!)

Here is the mil formula for meters. Forget about inches for now.

Range (meters) = Target height (meters) x 1000 / Target Height (mils)

So assuming that the subtension is indeed mils (rear focal plane variables change this with power):

Target height is 1.5 meters (60") and observed height is 4 mil dots, range is:

1.5 x 1000/4 or 1500/4 => 375 meters.

another example:

Target is .5 meters (18") wide and subtension is 1 mil

.5 x 1000 / 1 mil 500/1 or 500 meters.

Similarly the Mil formula can be written:

Range (yards)= Target height (yards) x 1000 / Observed (Mils)

2 yards (72") x 1000 / 4 mils = 5000 yards.

Work in meters or yards, it's easier!
