What's your light plinking/target load? Mine is/was 14gr of HS-6 behind 200gr CMJ bullet, but I'm looking for something a little lighter.

I shoot a .45 Colt not a .44 mag but they are pretty close. Two pleasant and ACCURATE loads that come to mind are 7.0 grs unique w. 250 grn RNFP and 5.5 grs IMR Trailboss w 230 gr LRN. The trailboss load is amazingly accurate (10rnd groups 3/4" @ 20yds) but trailboss is very hard to find in Canada at the present time. Look at the online data from alliant and imr and you will find these powders listed for .44.

Another vote for Trail Boss. It's perfect for mild .44 Magnum loads. I use it with 240gr LSWC bullets and it works great. Higginson's carries it.

Is it that very bulky powder intended for reduced loads in black powder cartridges like 45 long Colt? I thought it was made by Hodgdon.
PP.

Yes it is the powder you are thinking of. It is made by IMR, but Hodgdon owns IMR now, so you are correct for the most part.

For Cowboy action shooting in my .44 Magnum Ruger Vaquero I use 5.1 grains of W231 and for my Marlin M1894S I use 7.2 grains of Unique, both pushing 240 grain LSWC.
