Militaria ID Help

Hmm... I can only suspect that if someone offered $1000 for the helmet that at least one person considers it to be 100% original and authentic. Logical?

Well I've been contacted by a few people and a couple people to prove the prices of what the helmet is worth created a couple of ebay ads. Here is the auction with the LOWEST bidding price the item went for on ebay before it was removed TWICE (ebay states all auctions that feature swastikas, even on real historical items, are prohibited). While it was listed I received many emails asking me to relist the helmet WITHOUT the picture of the decal and put a BIN of $1000 USD.

Ebay stated though if I listed the OFFENSIVE item again my account would be locked!

I HAD NO INTENTION OF SELLING IT AT THIS TIME, the reserve price was allot higher than what it went for and I knew ebay would pull it eventually.

As you can see, the bidding was up to almost $800CDN within an hour of placing the item. The bidding was higher than this but was removed before I could take another screenshot!

If you can get $1000 for it, and you have no intention of keeping it, I encourage you to do so, as it is a great price for the seller, especially in this market. And if that's the case, I have several I would be more than happy to part with for that price. Good luck:)

I originally got the helmet with the intentions of making money on it, I figured though it would only be worth $100-$200 max! I had NO idea it was worth this amount of money and sadly a part of me wants to hold onto it because of the historical aspect of it. The other side though could REALLY use the money for something else like a new rifle! :D

UPDATE: I decided to list it on ebay for the $1000USD BIN price and a reserve of $800 USD. I've "censored" the picture of the swastika so ebay has no reason to pull it this time. If it sells it sells, if not then I'll keep it and try again next year. :D

Most of us collectors of such items know the current values and the games played on Ebay. More than likely what has happened is this: You took pics of the decal, most people know that Ebay will pull the auction so what happens is everyone that is interested will bid to try to get on the contact list or at the top of the list in hopes you will contact them after the auction has been canceled or they would send an email with a general question so that they would have your email address to send you an offer once the auction has been pulled. I honestly think if you get an offer anywhere near $1000 or even $800 US you should take it and run...maybe even change your addresses afterwards...

Cheers!

Yeah sometimes you can get lucky on eBay, but just FYI even $731 is an overpay for this helmet. I would contact that bidder and see if he will be willing to pay that, or at least tell him to contact me so I can sell him one! lol

Careful, that's against ebay rules. If ebay finds out, it's SHTF time.

It's only against the rules because it looses them money, they want to profit off of everyone. I buy and sell off of eBay all the time, found some nice stuff doing that :D I don't really see what they could do if they found out, ban me at the worst I guess.

I got many email offers after the fact but I emailed them all and told them I would relist it without the swastika showing and emailed everyone who ever made me an offer the link for the auction.

Bidding is now up to $600 USD and there is 6 days left in the auction.

Hi Drache,

No disrespect...Be prepared for your Ebay Auction to be canceled again. Im not sure how Ebays Policy works these days but after a 2nd warning you could be suspended.

Ive tried to explain how underhanded Ebay bidders are. They know your auction will be canceled, more than likely for the 2nd time.

The trick is to spot a item that will be canceled, bid and email the seller so that when the auction is ended he will have your contact info so he can try to snag the item before you relist it. The really sad part is that some of these people as soon you have replied to their question thus giving them your Email address will inform Ebay that they themselves find your item offensive and demand that the auction be canceled. Then they will offer you something way less as you get the feeling Ebay wont allow you to sell your item or it will be too big of headache...

I know your not a Ebay newbie but ive been buying and selling for yrs and have over 900 feedback total.

I never respond by email, only using the Ebay message service.

Also I've already talked to ebay and as long as the Swastika isn't shown, the item won't be pulled. That was the only reason it was pulled the first time. Yes I had lots of offers to buy the item off ebay but I told them all I would relist it instead.

Well if you responded through EBay they will have your email...unless you clicked the button to hide it.

This will be interesting...I hope it doesnt get pulled again.

Well it got pulled again and once again I got messages from people to buy it off ebay... so I reported all the ebay accounts that offered since it's against Ebay's policies. If they are going to keep reporting the auction just to try and get a better deal then they can shove it. I got an email from ebay stating I could relist it without showing the swastika and the item would be fine, 10 minutes ago they removed it again.

Yet there are OTHER WWII german helmets that have been sold on ebay in the past couple months and they weren't removed.

Im sick and tired of this crap, the bloody politics of ebay sicken me!

Is it ok for me to say I told you so?

Im sorry for saying it but I got the feeling you were telling me that I didnt know what Im talking about.

PM me if you want some advice and or help.

Cheers,
V

I know that you knew what you were talking about and I knew it was going on, I just hoped that it wouldn't. I swear Im just going to put a bullet through this damn thing and be done with it.... :D

I've sold some things on e-bay with "dubious" images and been fine but it's a hit and miss. You're on their radar right now so I'd lay low for a month or so and then try again with the image doctored to not show the image and start your listing with: "ATTN: EBAY THIS AUCTION CONTAINS NO OFFENSIVE IMAGES! PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE!"

Ebay sometimes trolls as a potential bidder to fish out info, I *ALWAYS* e-mail answers back through my hotmail address and not through ebay. If the questioner has hidden their e-mail account so I can only reply through ebay I don't answer the question.

Also, I've noticed that Ebay Germany is particularly good at picking these items off. If you limit your "ship to" locations to North America it falls off their scopes.

I wouldn't have reported those who offered to buy your helmet off ebay. I know from experience that most people like that are simply frustrated at the reverse of the same issue you're frustrated with. They finally find something that looks to be authentic and then poof, it disappears. I'm a collector of old typewriters and it took me forever to get a particular German WW2 model because of this same problem, it had runes instead of the number sign over the 3.

Lastly, that helmet isn't worth anything near what it was bid up to so if you get a good offer take it!
