Military Bolt ID

It does look like a 1871 mauser kinda with the safety. But unless they went back in time when making the 71/84 i doubt it is. There should be a removable bolt head also the ejector is built into the bolt oppsed to on the side of the bolt like the 71/84

But the real deal breaker it has front locking lugs

Il bet its the first mauser bolt that used front locking lugs.

Hi BMcK. How about a rifle bolt for the German Model 88 Commission Rifle that has had the handle bent down
as to appear to be a carbine bolt. The carbine bolts as originally made had the famous butter knife bolt handle.

I think you nailed it.
I obviously don't have the rifle, so i was planning on listing it on the EE. What would be a fair price with the bent bolt handle.

Thanks to all who offered input. I truly appreciate it.

That bolt looks like it's missing extractor. Not sure if removed or broken and piece of it is still there. Can be an issue if it has to be replaced.

As issued the German Kar 88 and the Gew 91 had butter knife bolt handles.

The Gew 91 differs from the Kar 88 in that a stacking hook has been added similiar to the stacking hook on the Kar 98AZ.

This catalogue, "Arms of the World, 1911: The fabulous ALFA catalogue of arms and the outdoors "

Used to show the Kar 88 in 7mm and with double triggers for expeditions.

It also shows the Gew 88 as converted to sporting rifles by various companies.

On the bottom of the cocking piece are hash marks of the sort used by gunsmiths to keep parts together. I suspect that the bolt is from a sported or sporting rifle.
