Does anyone wear military camo when hunting?

I was thinking about getting a british woodlands camo jacket for wet/cold hunting trips.

Like this pattern ^^^

Military camo sucks compared to whats available out there now for hunters, simple as that.

you wouldnt catch me dressed up like a 'Nam vet out hunting ducks or deer :D

the debate ususally is whether to wear camo or not. My own view is it doesn't hurt so why not. The patterns out there now are miles ahead of the old tiger stripe which was intended was to disguise you from the enemy. the main thing is to break up your outline so things like ghillie netting , face masks, etc, and all the archery tricks are the way to go.

The intent of military camo is to break up your outline and to fool human eyes.
Since you aren't hunting humans, I think hunting camo patterns are a much better choice since they are designed to fool animal eyes and blend the hunter into the background.
(Branchbark, RealTree, etc... there a tons to choose from...)

military cam is for Professional Soldiers and mall ninjas who think they're proffesional soldiers!
And like Demonical stated,"cam is overrated".Having said that,if you need to wear cam, stick to 'hunting patterns' ie;Mossy Oak,Realtree etc,etc......

OK.

I hear wearing two different types of camo patterns such as Mossy oak and realtree helps blend in better, what you all think?

lcpaintballer I would suggest that simply wearing drab, neutral colors is as good as any camo. Careful hunting, paying attention to the wind and being careful not to move too quickly is far more important then any camo pattern.

Have you ever heard of Cal Coziah? He is a bow hunter from Utah, who never bothered to keep up with technology. He hunted with an old Allen compound bow, one of the original compound designs ever. It probably launched an arrow At 180 fps. He hunted in nothing but the old wool traditional red and black plaids and he put 5 Boone & Crockett mulies on the ground...

As far as camo goes, you cannot beat the Realtree stuff, but I CAN'T AFFORD IT... if you can then buy it.

I wear an OD top, have a few different ones to choose from, and Green Carharts most of the time. seems to work just fine.

personally, I find camo grossly over rated. no doubt it's a disruptive pattern and aids in the breakup of you human form (outline). as for the most part you game sees in greytones, most camo is marketing.

I would focus more on the way you move and what kind of cover you can use, rather then what you're wearing.

I use German flecktar camo garments because they were cheap when I got them, fit me, and had lots of pockets.

In general I agree that camo is vastly overrated, but the Flecktar works for me.

I think moving slowly or not at all and watching the wind is more important in hunting than camo though.

I like military equipment better.
Not a mall ninja wannabe. Milspec clothing have more- read waaaay more pockets, better positioned, are tougher and sometimes warmer.

If one can afford the good stuff, look up at the wool/Goretex garments, but be ready to shed over 800$ do dress up. (for the real good stuff)

the POS you can buy @ wallmart... they get you wet when it's raining ang cold when the temperature drops. They don't breathe, so the slightest effort will get you sweaty.

When I say military surplus I don;t necesarily mean US GI. There are tons of german, swedish, czech... etc . that is wool and really comfy. and therefore cheaper than the US ones - that make you look like Rambo V.

I have two pair of trousers, wool, that came from an army place.....plain green and plain steel grey.....just because they fit, were made of wool, and $25/pr.......and a green wool shirt that was the only XL the army guy had....

I usually dont wear camo.

I have a bunch of military camo, I just get it for really cheap from ebay. I just got a pair of really good quality DPM pants from Britain for only 12$ and a used pant and jacket set from the states for 20$ can't go wrong.

I don't really care which camo I would use, hunting or military, I just like wearing it because it is cheap, dont worry about wearing it out or damaging it cuz I dont wear it on the street and it has lots of pockets and places to carry my stuff.

I have flecktarn, woodland, some multicam, and dpm. Besides, I like camo anyway, i simply think it looks cool and most bdu stuff is made really tough

camo

I wear minitary cammo it's well designed and cheeep. The stuff I have is dead quiet and once I got rid of the velcro it was fine. I'll never win a fashion contest while hunting, but I have some nice animals on my walls. I know a lot of people who have been well marketed to and have all the latest clothing .........who have bare walls.

There was a study done a few years back, maybe someone else here will have the article that I think was in a hunting rag. It went on to test the effectivness of various camo patterns ranging from 3D to street cloths, the interesting finding was that the best break-up pattern available at the time was a Hawaiian tourist shirt, seen in Black and white with long sleeves, I found that pretty humorous.
