My hunting buddy has a Churchill Mauser in 30-06 that he would like to have modified for quicker loading/unloading. No point in "re-inventing the wheel" as it were if it has already been successfully. Any help would be appreciated.

He could have the bottom metal from a Parker Hale 1200C installed. It's basically a Mauser 98 with a three or five round detachable mag. I understand that once the change is made you can never go back because the cartridge guides must be machined off of the receiver. The mag is what guides the rounds with a detachable magazine.

having spent about a year, and 80 bucks on a magazine for a 1200C in 30-06, I would avoid that solution.

The trade-ex mags sound like what OP is looking for. There are also 20rd Trench magazines out there. With these options the rifle isn't altered permanently. Original floor plate can always be re-installed.

I sent him a link to the trade-ex site. I agree with camster, no permanent alterations is the way to go.

I have one of the TradeEx mags. It works well for cartridges in the 8x57 size range. No mods to the rifle, just fits right in place of the original floor plate, spring and follower. The only short-coming for some folks is that the mag capacity is only 3 rounds.

The 20 round trench mag looks pretty good. Designed for 8mm, .30-06 should be fine I would think. Any idea where to get them for a decent price in Canada?

Are you sure? Which version of 1200C did you see that the normal Mauser box mag lips are machined off? All the PH clip models I've handled(one I owned) still had cartridge lips on the receiver.
