Military/trench shotguns in Canada

Anyone have any experiance with building a clone M12 trench gun? I see theres a company in the states that offers a repro heat shield-bayonet lug. Been thinking id like to have a short barrel set for my heavy duck gun

If you have one of these and you really want to know when it was made, you have to email Bruce Canfield with detailed pictures. He literally wrote the book on trench shotguns. The Winchester records for the actual trench guns are wrong apparently. If I remember correctly, they didn't make any of these post WWII and that right there tells you that most of the serial number look ups are wrong. I have a 1942 Winchester 1897 Trench gun and a Stevens 520-30 trench gun. They are pretty cool firearms! Heavy and really ominous when you put that giant sword on the front!!!

Did someone here just snag this from Epps? Unfortunately, it sold before I got around to checking this morning :(

I was curious about the serial number, #E943### so looked it up. This shotgun would have been made in 1948. A quick google search turned up one of a similar vintage that sold a few years ago at RIA for $2250USD:

If you just want a trench type gun to blast around with, i'd strongly suggest you look at a Mossberg 590 A1.
They're the current US Millitary issue, they have a bayonet lug and optional vented handguard, they're actually parkerized so they fit the look, and wooden furniture will fit on them if you want to tweak the look back a few decades.

Look around for pictures, I can't be bothered to at the moment but they turn out looking really awesome and exactly like a trenchgun could. It's seamless and actually "issue" if that's what gets your rocks off.

Here you go guys:

Looks cool :shotgun:

On one site I keep close to my chest - he recently sold a Winchester 97 Trench Gun - Canadian Broad Arrow marked and Brass Butt Plate (also Winchester Marked).

Ah, I think of know if which site you speak. I don't watch it often, but took a look and found the shotgun your thinking of... in the $2400ish range. Was that listed for a while, or did it just come up?

Bunny used a regular old 870 Wingmaster in Platoon. Not sure how historically accurate that would be, but I know if I was doing some bushwacking I would want a more versatile shotgun than that.

That was pretty much standard issue for Corrections and the police for many years....some did have extended mag tubes on them ; others just had standard capacity mag. tubes . I think the Correctional Service of Canada still uses the the 870 as their standard issue shotgun...
