I wondering about getting one - if I can't get one in Canada is there any restrictions on shipping them up from the US?

To answer your other question, you cannot legally export any rifle optics out of the US due to restrictions put in place by the US Dept. of State. So you are definitely limited to buying from Canadian dealers.
