Hello,

I have found a millett scope which i literally can only find on ebay from the states or amazon. If anyone has a permit to import scopes from the states would you be willing to buy the scope and i will send you the money? I dont want to be applying for a permit. Or if not then any other options?

It is export from the US that is the issue.
Importing into Canada is not.
You will have to find a US exporter who is prepared to handle this.

There is a mistaken belief with some Canadian consumers that a blanket licence would allow export/import of all optics in general. This is not the case as the importer(in Canada) is first required to apply for an import certificate with the Canadian govt(a few days to a couple of weeks) which is then sent to the exporter (in the USA) who applies for an export certificate with the US govt (a few weeks or months)for a specific description of optics to a specific dealer during a certain time frame. As stated previously these are a requirement of the US govt. Anyone who tells you different is either fibing or unaware as there are lots of American dealers and exporters who either don't know or don't care and have not yet had the heavy hand of the US govt slammed down on them. Ask Midway why they don't export scopes anymore. We have had opportunity to buy optics directly from the US at cheaper prices than the authorized Canadian distributors however the service and resupply would not be viable and there would be no warranty available in Canada for our customers. Phil.

If you live near the border you can have it sent to a ups store in a bordertown then go down there and pick it up.... the charge is about 5 dollars..... no issue with you bringing it across....

until the US does an exit check, and checks your personal exit area.

please don't tell people how to break the law and get banned from entering the US if caught. besides, it is against the board rules which you read and said OK to when joining.

Isn't it amazing how many people still seem to think it is no big deal to flaunt US laws? It only takes one USBS/HS exit check to completely ruin your day! Mur

Last I checked, it isn't illegal to import a scope... only to export.. If I am wrong please show me a link that will straighten me up....

As far as I know CDN folks are legal to bring them in.... it's the US folks that aren't supposed to send them across...

I think if you spent as much time reading and following the rules as you did beaking off about them you may have a clue.... good luck with your shortcomings....

It is point blank, outright, illegal for a Canadian to have the thing sent to a US accomodation address, pick it up, and bring it out of the United States.
This is export of a controlled item without the necessary export licence and permit.
You have counselled committing a US federal offence.
You do not appear to appreciate the difference between export from the US and import into Canada.

Might want to do some checkin yourself man.

You are right in that it is legal for Canadians to bring scopes into Canada, but it is sure as #### illegal for ANYONE to export them out of the US without the proper license and permits!

Why would you think it is illegal for americans to export them but OK for Canadians?

We are subject to their laws when in the US, so when you go to pick it up, and bring it back you are breaking US law!

Basically Military type scopes is the State Department. All others are handled by the Department of Commerce.

Sorry SB.....He's right.

Optics brought across the US border = jail time. It's 100% OK to bring them into Canada....but 100% NOT to take them out of the US.

I'm gonna take a wild guess here and state that getting caught exporting one scope will not equate to jail time. Some of you guys have a serious case of paranoia and a profound fear of anyone with a badge.
Yes, it's illegal, so don't do it, but for those who didn't know(and there's lots), they're not sitting in Guantanamo Bay at the moment.

Doubt there is jail time. However if they ask you "do you have any firearm parts or accesories, scopes ect." and you say "no" and they find a scope. We'll I doubt you will be visiting the US for the next few years/decades. Not to mention bye bye scope.

The scope will be forfeit. The person will be on file for an attempt to circumvent US arms export controls. Will this prevent entry into the US in the future? Who wants to find out the hard way?
There is a long established tradition of circumventing border controls all over the world. Smuggling has gone on for ages. Doesn't make using the 'net to announce successful unpapered exports, or methods to do it a good idea.

Not necessarily jail time. The offense is punishable buy up to $1M fine and/or 10 years in prison...:p

Great deal on a Millett scope...:onCrack:

Maybe, maybe not. But for the guys here that are saying you'd be fine, well maybe they should be the guinea pig...:D

Personally, I don't think its worth the gamble to find out, just to save a $100-$200 on a scope. It would seem a redundant law here, but the US is usually on the extreme end in their sentencing...

I have been through their roadblocks 2x, and they have a dozen or more officers go through vehicles thoroughly, and have a few dogs on the job too.
