Before you ask or suggest, yes i did read the chinese ID sticky.lol

I bought a norinco sks from a reputable business. It was marketed as "military production SKS rifles, manufactured in the early 1960s for the Chinese armed forces." And not civilian commercial. Yet this rifle has no /26\, no chinese marking s just 7 serial numbers. 0101213 no spaces. I read the chinese sticky id thread and what i took from it is i think my sks is made in 2001 and not "military production". I could be wrong.

Here's the skinny on the gun. Chrome lined barrel, spike bayo. serial number on the side of gun 0101213. The rest on the parts 01213 all # match. on all parts. It has short barrel lug. I have an n on the leaf sight. Milled trigger group, side swivel on the stock for the sling. There is and off set square with a 1 in it on the stock just bellow were the trigger guard is.

If it is commercial grade is it going to be a is it going to be a good rifle, is a hit and miss or is it just going to be a complete piece. I wanted to add a Type 56 to the collection not a franken simonov. If she is just a refurb or commercial Im going to bubba it. lol

If any one could shed some light plz do. Thanks

Dozens of factories made the type 56 in China, some did not add an arsenal code. You can only reliably date the ones from factory 26. The rifle is NIB military production, as advertised. The lack of a code may actually make it more desireable.

damn i was hoping to get a rough estimate of the date. And cosmoline is definitely what the stink is lol. More cosmoline then my tula by far lol. Fire up the gun parts kettle lol.

Heres how you tell commercial from mil: Commercial have "SKS 7.62x39" and "Made In China" on the side, military rifles do not. I'm 99% sure commercial SKS were only made with blade bayo and stock, the finish was much smoother and very bland. The finish on yours should be quite rough, like the wood was rough cut and dumped in a barrel of varnish. But you definetely have a Chinese Military SKS and it is every bit as good as a Russian and will probably out-shoot most refurbs. Enjoy your new toy

:D thank yo I definately will :ar15:

Mine had "SKS 762x39mm Made in China" on the side and was identified(on here by Curtton) as mid-production military.
All milled, threaded barrel, side sling mount on the stock, spike bayonet, don't think a better sks could be built.
Although the yugo I replaced it with looks nicer.

Very early chinese SKS rifles had the blade bayonet, and were military.

Dont know about the desirable... Id shoot the hell out of it... just for fun and then buy another one.:D

I have the same SKS and have poured through all the information I can find. What makes it interesting is it was sold as a 60's era sks so it should have chinese characters on it but doesn't.
