milspec or not..... I have a question

I have dicussed with site admin and have been given a green light to ask guys what they are looking for in a candian made stock for the m14 type rifles.

so here is my question. I have nearly completed a stock design for accepting AR type buttstocks.... and will also have forward rail mounts.
I've heard all the talk about milspec verses commercial and am wondering....
what is the general preference, as many accessories out there these days are commercial threaded or won't fit tight on milspec rails.
So... what would you prefer , any thoughts?
 
Milspec please. Most of the goodies I would use are based on that side of the fence anyways. Any pictures available yet? What about cost? Give us a break!!!!!! :D
 
guys... i know it's teasing you all.... waiting for me to release ALL details.... however, as i am not yet a dealer, i can only discuss what i have permission from site admin to discuss.....
I feel it is important to find out what people want and provide just that.... stay tuned ;)
 
common man, hints maybe? What are we looking at here? TROY style body? more/less metal? Can opener built in?? Hell, I'm just excited to have someone on our side of the boarder making something! Thanks!
 
stocks will be high quality fiberglass based, I'm staying away from the machined aluminum heavy weight stuff..... hard to beat or improve on items such as jae, troy and sage.

I'm not looking to reinvent the wheel, I'm just trying to get a canadian made, quality product out there. I have my A2 tactical type fiberglass stock completed, pistol grip E2 is almost finished and the AR type is also near completion.
getting feedback from the cgn community is important ,, think of it as market research ;)
 
For AR buffer tubes, you can go either way ....as just as many people have commercial sized as milspec size.

I would guess that new sales through the dealers on this site often give great package deals on AR made by manufacturers using milspec sizing. eg LMT, RRA, etc. In light of this, maybe, make the size milspec for the receiver extension.

As for rail sizing, accessories made for Weaver rails will work on Picatinny. Accessories made for Picatinny may or may not fit on Weaver.
 
If you are talking about putting rails on the forend - definitely go Picatinny rail (any other rail would be silly).

The buffer tube as mentioned earlier is threaded the same for both milspec and commercial.

agreed - looking forward to the A.R. sliding stock version - will take one for sure !
 
use metal "backing" strips and cap screws and you can make a stock accept either picatinny or weaver type "rails". One stock two applications.

The threading is the same, but the size is different. As 45ACPKING is making an entire stock to allow an AR stock, he'll also have to choose whether to make it sized for commercial buffer tubes or milspec.
 
I'd be happy with a fibreglass stock just like the GI only with a pistol grip. Don't even want a folding or telescoping stock.

However, I can be persuaded otherwise! Milspec or commercial, rails should be removable, otherwise you might as well ahve an alum. chasis.

hey guys
i appreciate your comments and suggestions so far. This may be an unorthodox way of going about market research but.... valuable none the less.
I was going to try and set it up as a poll, but there's just too many configurations for me to figure that out.

I think i am getting a good understanding of what is wanted in the AR /m14type stock. As far as a standard G.I. stock with a pistol grip.... like the well known DaveGP stocks, I can bang those out anytime. A stock to fit AR accessories is quite a bit more involved as I am having the mount machined, the new stock is then molded, encasing the adapter, rather than an bolt on and epoxy, aftermarket shotgun type mount used in other designs.

Along with this project(s) , I also have a day job, and other part time side business (custom fishing rods, thus my background in epoxy resins, graphite sheeting, carbon fiber/kevlar weave, fiberglass, I've also built a few custom fiberglass boat hulls , ect), so bear with me...... I'm not going to disappear with a project unfinished ;)
