Hi I'm trying to make my reloads match my sights on a Chilean 7.62 conversion. It's easier on my k31 because I have gp11 to compare it to . Is there knowledge out there on what ammo these guns might have had there sights calibrated to ? Bullet weight and velocity should get me close , I'm going trial and error right now ,

Assuming that the Chileans replicated the standard 7.62 ball NATO round, it would have used a 147 or 150gr bullet at a MV of 2733 fps. Handloads with a 150gr FMJ bullet (the Hornady 150gr FMJ is excellent) using IMR4895 or IMR3031 would come close to replicating the 7.62 NATO round. IMR4895 was the MILSPEC propellant. I'd follow the usual SOP of starting loads on the mild side then work upwards incrementally watching for pressure signs. A chronograph would be helpful.

Best accuracy is often found at less than top MV. I'd probably be inclined to adjust my sights to the load after finding one that delivers the best accuracy. Is your rifle the short or long barrel model? The nominal length of the short barrels is 23.5 inches.

I am assuming by "a Chilean 7.62 conversion" you are talking about a Mauser bolt action rifle. Unless the sight were also modified (which I doubt) the sights were calibrated for the 7 mm X 57 mm Mauser cartridge. Not sure of the muzzle velocity but the Chilean 7 mm Mauser ammunition I shot had a 139 grain FMJ bullet.

It's the short barrel version . And thanks I never thought of it but they were originally 7x57 . I will compare load data and see what I find out on the range
