Why do some guys cut off about 40% of their customers when selling Milsurps (and other products) by saying EMT ONLY.....and will not even consider other instruments of commerce. Are sales that good or am I missing something here.
Many of us old timers do not use, nor feel comfortable using on line banking and the internet to send money. (FRAUD ALERT) is bad enough but at least you don't have a direct pipeline into your bank account. I realize (FRAUD ALERT) is anti gun and is part of Eslime, but at least you can do it discretely.
Almost as bad as the number of people that crap out on you on a deal. They chisel you down on a deal and when you agree on a price you never hear from them again. This is happening more and more here with lots of the "big sellers and buyers".
Is it just me or ??????
If this is out of place here just zap it, but it seems to be worse on the Milsurps EE.
The old curmudgeon hisself..... :)##

HAHA. Good rant.

I am young(ish, 28), and I think the younger generation is used to things moving at a certain pace. ie fast. I get emails on my blackberry, so im always connected. So I think younger people are just impatient.
Saying that though, I have never specified what type of payment I wanted for an item for sale. If someone offers me what I want in money order, or cash , whatever, good enough.
But I do see what youre talking about.

I have no issues with money orders, personal cheques, or EMT. Why would someone be afraid of a money order? As long as the money clears, we're good to go.

EMT is the safest transaction for both the seller and the buyer.
I usually *only* deal in EMT as a buyer, but will consider (FRAUD ALERT) when buying from reputable, known sellers.

I have never had an EMT give problems, while I have seen cheques go missing (both as a seller and buyer). I also dislike cheques / money orders because you are hung up waiting for it to arrive and it takes a long time to find out if a buyer has flaked out on a deal this way. Finally, MO's are expensive for me to buy, everything else is far cheaper to use.

When it is all said and done, EMT is the fastest, easiest, most secure, cost effective way to do a deal.

Here's a reason:
I had someone send me a cheque, about 6 years ago. Well, okay, the cheque did not show up. But the damage to my home did when someone attempted to break in.
Kid was looking for guns, according to police, who apprehended him shortly thereafter.
Unless I know you, you don't get my address.

I never understood this either, emt is the fastest and easiest way if you are with a bank tthat offers it and most rural banks dont.

Ive always thought that as long as I get paymet I dont care how it comes in.

+1 on all the above.

I'm don't do much on the EE here, but I have a fair bit of experience w/ buying and selling online.

I've seen too many cheques go missing, bounce, or get held for weeks by the bank for no good reason before they clear to want to deal with them as a seller. Not to mention some taking up to a weak to two to get the money.

Money orders are no problem, except you have to wait for them to come in the mail, and they can be expensive for the sender ($10+).

EMT is fast (almost instant), cheap ($1.50 per transaction), easy, and secure.

As a seller, why would you want to work with anything else? If I had to deal with money orders or cheques, I'd be inclined to charge a premium to compensate for the hassle.

Like wheaty, I don't do EMT. If you look at our trader ratings, you will see that we are both pretty well established.
Don't think I've lost any sales because I don't accept EMT..
Heck, when I'm dealing with people like wheaty, and a number of other members here, the goods might go before payment is received. Good folks are good folks.

Yeah thats 100 out of 400 so by saying emt only that alienates alot of potential buyers, nt to mention all of the older gents who have already said they dont like or trust online banking. It just seems silly to me that someone would purposefully cut out a whole section of the market and im just a young guy!

cheques being held at the bank is not the bank it self. Its at the discretion of the tellers, if they say there will be a hold go to another teller. If that doesnt work talk to a manager. I have had a few problems in the past with my bank in that respect and Ive always managed to get it resolved.

If you are worried about it getting lost in the mail then make the buyer send it expiedited with a tracking number ?

I'd say the biggest problem is sellers who back out after saying deal. With EMT I have the cash in hand IMMEDIATELY and know whether I'm dealing with serious buyer.

Know what its like to sell a gun then find out two weeks later the seller has dropped off the face of the earth?

That said I have taken other forms of payment.

Interesting seeing both the pro's and con's of the EMT discussion. I've just had two cheques go missing within the last few months, but I think of the number of items I have just walked away from because of the EMT only. To each his own I guess. And, as some have said: "I ship before the money even shows with some guys".....Me to.
Also, I am never in a panic for anything. I've had guys email every few hours after sending a cheque to see if it has arrived and the items sent. "two days and the ### isnot here yet". If one of the trusted few, the item is in the mail the moment the deal is done. Unless of course I am up to my butt in alligators and unable to find the plug for the swamp. :)##

I agree, I don't like EMT, and I'm not set up for it, bank wants an extra $5/month for an account that supports EMTs. Not worth it for me.

and really whats the big rush, I've had deals that take weeks to conclude, not a problem. Everyone is in such a big hurry.

Direct deposit into an account is as safe if not safer than EMT.

EMT can be hacked. Me, I dont use it.

A person depositing money into your account in another city is safe, quick, free and simple. Granted, it only works when one banks at a major bank.
