Excellent European film.
Great cast, script, and high production values.
In French with English subtitles. (Not a problem).

Conveys the danger and brutality of operations
in Nazi-held territory. Great use WWII weaponry (I'm not
an expert, but it looks authentic.)

As always, I suggest viewing using the excellent
free VLC media player available at: http://www.videolan.org/

Female Agents

Femmes de l'ombre, Les (2008)

In May 1944, a group of French servicewomen and resistance fighters are enlisted into the British Special Operations Executive commando group under the command of Louise Desfontaines and her brother Pierre. Their mission, to rescue a British army geologist caught reconnoitering the beaches at Normandy, and to kill a German SS colonel who is close to figuring out the imminent secret of D-Day, proves to be emotional and brutal. The story is inspired by the accomplishments of decorated SOE agent Lisé de Baissac.

Is there lot's of gun ####?

We've been covering the U.S. Civil War in my general U.S. History class for the past few days, which reminds me of two films worth watching:

Glory (1989)

"Based on the letters of Colonel Robert G. Shaw. Shaw was an officer in the Federal Army during the American Civil War who volunteered to lead the first company of black soldiers. Shaw was forced to deal with the prejudices of both the enemy (who had orders to kill commanding officers of blacks), and of his own fellow officers"

Starring:
Matthew Broderick
Denzel Washington
Cary Elwes
Morgan Freeman

Pretty decent battle scenes and a good story.

Gettysburg (1993)

"The four and 1/4 hour depiction of the historical and personal events surrounding and including the decisive American civil war battle features thousands of civil war re-enactors marching over the exact ground that the federal army and the army of North Virginia fought on. The defense of the Little Round Top and Pickett's Charge are highlighted in the actual three day battle which is surrounded by the speeches of the commanding officers and the personal reflections of the fighting men."

Starring:
Tom Berenger
Martin Sheen
Stephen Lang
Jeff Daniels

Good battle scenes as well, lots of Springfield 1861, and cap & ball pistol ####.

I don't know that I'd call it gun ####. :)
There are lots of scenes and gun battles with WWII weaponry.

Sniper rifles
Silenced pistols
German sub-machine guns etc.

But it is not Rambo with inane wall-to-wall firefights for 2 hours.
What I liked was the sense of real people, really afraid in
really dangerous situations trying to do their best.

We owe that generation so much and the women agents
are overlooked.
