Milsurp Finds!!

Oh Man! You know I used to go 2 or 3 times a year, then the wife and kids came along. Priorities have changed, but the memories are great!!
I have taken a few friends before. One buddy and I went, I stayed for a month, he came for a week. He found a couple wound badges, coins and a war merit cross. The day after he went home, I found over 50 close combat clasps and assault badges. To this day he thinks I stiffed him:p . It's hit and miss, mostly miss...you can search for days and not find a button, then hit it big.
Will be a long time before I get back there. If it's ever in the near future, rest assured I will keep you posted:)

Joe, I've asked before and will again. How much will it cost to let me and my metal detector sleep in a tent in your relatives in Germany's backyard for a week or two?

Seriously PM me if this is plausible.

Thats good to know. I'd still spend the money and love every second of it, even if I knew it would be a miss. SOund's like you've really got a nice place to retreat to joe :)

Thanks for the great stuff Joe! I'm seriously contemplating a trip to eastern europe next year, is there public land where anyone can dig, or is it strictly begging land owners?

Considering a lot of those countries are broke these days, it wouldn't be such a stretch ot turn war relic hunting in a tourist attraction. Give tourists 1-2 days of training then let them loose under the supervision of at least one individual who knows what he's doing in order to keep everybody safe.

"No questions asked money back guarantee, but there is a $50 re-stocking fee and you pay the shipping."

I see a business opp here.

Looks like this stuff was dumped for some reason. Maybe the unit was captured, or just needed to lighten itself for a quick march out of occupied territory. I wonder if the stocks were purposely smashed against trees to make them impractical to shoot and therefore keep them out of immediate enemy hands?

My father knew where a patrol boat was sunk on the Tisza River. He swam dove down and recovered some stuff as a teen.

Reminds me of a Werewolf type stash. Second line guns for the most part, and lots of grenades. Doubt that it was, but thats why I wonder where, within 200km it was found ;)

Thanks Gentlemen, still looking for more information, but I can confirm these items were recovered in Germany, beyond that I am still awaiting further information. Thanks for looking:)

These remind me of the stories of a guy who grew up in post-war Poland - as kids they found an abandoned German ammo dump and they would throw the belts of ammo into camp fires. They'd jump behind some rocks and listen to the fireworks!

One of my uncles who grew up in poland told the same kind of stories. They would gather up all the ammo they could find, build a fire and throw it all in.
great fun?
