RC Mauser K98k for deer, didn't get SP 8mm rounds this year though so I'm taking the Benelli M4 out instead (Not milsurp, but the M4 is used in combat...close enough). My SVT-40 has taken a few deer as well but not by me
I've been hunting with Lee Enfield No 1 rifles for 25+ years.
A great many deer , a few black bear and a couple moose have been taken with one of those rifles in my hands.
My first buck was taken with my dad's 1918 BSA no1 shtle 3* , my largest mulie as well (165.5 typical 4pt)
I have lost count of how many deer I have taken with these rifles.
I like to transform boring sporters with no collectable value into highly functional hunting rifles. Has been a hobby of mine for years.
Evanguy and his daughter harvested a mountain goat with an iron sighted lee enfield on a fly in unguided hunt last year I think. Was a hell of a good story that one.
I don't hunt with milsurps any more because a good friend (sadly deceased) gave me several really good vintage sporting rifles, but I shot my first deer with an M-10 Ross 303 in 1970. I didn't know anything about different brands of ammo or bullet weights or any of that stuff at the time I just had a handful of random different brands and bullet weights 303 British hunting cartridges and was lucky enough to get a 4x5 Vancouver Island blacktail.
Later I had a bit of a Mosin-Nagant kick and shot a deer and several bears with an unmodified 91/30 MN with iron sights and a couple more with a MN Scout rifle I put together with parts from Century Arms and a pistol scope. The B-Square mount and scope cost me many more times the cost of the barreled action and carbine stock.lol
Shot a small buck with a M44. Handloads with some sort of soft point. Probably a Sierra 150gr but it was a long time ago. Also shot a doe with a Steyr M95/34. Again handloads with the Graf soft point I believe. That was also a long time ago. Shot several deer with a sporterized No 4. That rifle started my disdain for the LE action. lol.
I've used several Mauser's some milsurp, others sporterized/commerical and still use them from time to time. I enjoy the challenge using the sights and nostalgia the rifles come with. Having history in your hands.

Yup we sure did do that and next year this coming year we are taking the same gun to Spatsizi. I'll have the scope installed and be more careful with it this time. I actually plan to sight that rifle I today
This years mule buck was taken with a mauser k98k sporter with aperture sight. 60 yards or so. The 8mm was more than plenty even with a mild load. 170gr Speer at 2500 fps.
Used to go out with a buddy of mine back in the day, with an M14 and an FN. Both worked well, though heavy compared to a light weight hunting rifle (not when compared to today's decked out tacticool rifles, however). Lots of surplus Enfields when I was young. Same with Mausers. - dan
