If you are ever in Beunos Aires it is worthwhile to visit the Miltary Museum at 710 Santa Fee (near the Mariot on Florida street).
They have an incredible collection of Mausers and other firearms dating back to 1640.
Argentina's current military firearm is the FN and they had a very nice selection of the various models and incarnations of FNs.
They also had a wide variety of flint lock and precussion military firearms from Europe and north America.
It was also interesting to note that Agentina has an arms industry that manufactures some very fine firearms.

Through several folks and a language barrier I discovered that Private possesion of firearms is limited to .22 rimfire in rifles and pistols.
Special permits can be obtained for limited possession of centerfire rifles.
Apparently only folks with friends in the government get to possess centerfire pistols and rifles with scopes.
Folding knives with blades over 10cm 2.54in are prohibited. The tour guide almost filled his pants when i pulled out my leatherman folder with the 3" blade to cut up an apple. I was told to get it out of sight immediately.

you have nothing to worry about, your 3' bladed knife is only 7.62 cm long and therefore perfectly legal!....
1 inch = 2.54 cm (at least that's what it was the last time I checked )

You went B.A. and are you telling me that you did not experience Vinco Cinco de Mayo minefields and watering holes ? You went to the museums instead :)
