Would like to run a Milsurp shooting tournament, simple, and fun.
It's this simple:

If you are unable to print, but really want to shoot, I can look at mailing a target but please don't select this just as a convenience as it'll take a great deal of time on my end. Happy to help for those far from printers however.
TARGET SCORIN
-Groups will be of 10 rounds, no limit on time to complete the group.
-Ranges offered for the shoot are 100 yards, 200 yards, 300 yards, 500 yards, and 1,000 yards. For the 100 yard shoot, it is likely best to shoot two targets, 5 rounds each, and then combine for your 10 round score. Otherwise, a tight 10 round 100 yard group with say 8mm bullets might be difficult to score accurately. Shoot in any you have the room to, and you can shoot and submit a target in all of them if you are able. At the longer ranges, most rifles and shooters will be well off just to hit the 8.5x11" sheet of paper the target is printed on, I'll be impressed by a single "5" point target for 1000 yards. The 8.5x11" piece of paper does well to replicate the center of mass hit zone, and therefore hits at 500 and especially 1,000 yards are impressive in themselves. Scores will be lower, the longer the range, but Champions will be named for the respective range they won. There will be no handicapping for an overall champ as in such conditions a single lucky 1,000 yard paper hit may beat a shooter who fired all his rounds in the black at 100 yards.
-Groups will be scored very simply: total the points scored by adding up the figures in the rings you've hit, a hit to the paper outside the "6" ring is scored as a "5". A hit to the bull, or "X" ring is scored as a "15". The CENTER of the bullet hole in the target must be more than 50% into the higher point ring to count. For instance, a bullet piercing the target on the line between the "10" ring and the bull, or "X", will only count as 15 points if the center of that hole is further into the bull, or "X" ring than it is into the "10" ring. If the bullet's hole is dead even on a line, and it can't be discerned which ring holds more of the hole, the lower point value is taken as the score (a hit dead smack in the middle of the line between the "6" ring and the "7" is scored as a "6"). As well, an edge hit to the paper must have the bullet center more than 50% on the paper to count. Post your score, with the range fired, and a picture of your target or PM me for mail submission of targets and I can post them for you.
Here's a sample target, that scores a "75":
FIREARMS
-Max Barrel Length 25.5" (Lee Enfield is OK), unless the reciever of the gun is older than 1945 then the length is unlimited.
-Any action type is legal, provided it fits the following parameters.
-Must shoot with iron sights, newer replacements or aftermarket OK, but no globe front sights etc. Blade or post style front sight only (Hi-Viz / fiber optic OK), hooded OK, rear sight unlimited as long as it's iron.
-Rifle must weigh under 12lbs.
-No bipods. Can shoot prone, or off a bench with any rest that does not grip the rifle in any way. The spirit is the rifle should be shot from a position that could be entered into in less than 10 seconds.
-Replacement barrels OK, but still has to meet the 12lb limit for overall gun weight.
-Replacement stocks OK, but must not be of a heavy target style. For instance, beavertail forends, adjustable cheek pieces, and vertical grip benchrest-style stocks are not permitted. Field ready stock profiles only.
-The cartridge fired must generate more than 2,000 ft-lbs of muzzle energy, and shoot a bullet heavier than 135 grains. Off the top of my head, military specification loads in 6.5x55 Swedish, 7x57 Mauser, 8x57 Mauser, .303 British, .308 Winchester, .30-06 etc are all legal. Component/ammunition choice is unlimited within these criterea.
-The cartridge fired must be a cartridge that has been issued to military units, and used in conflict prior to 1965 (pre-Vietnam era). You can even use a Martini if you wanted.
-The action of the rifle being used must have been designed prior to 1965. New manufacture actions are OK, but must bear the original designation in some way, shape, or form. For example, an AIA Lee Enfield, new production is still a Lee Enfield, and is OK. A new manufacture Mauser, if still labelled as a Model 98 is OK, but a "Mauser derivative" like a Husqvarna 1600 is not. Principally commercial rifles, that were issued to military units pre-1965 and saw combat, are OK as long as the action is an original and predates 1965, for example a Winchester Model 70 .30-06 (employed as a sniper rifle). If scoped, these run in the Sniper Category, however.
-Aftermarket triggers are OK, but pull must not be less than 3.5lbs.
SNIPER CLASS: Any Sniper or repro, weight limit 15lbs. Caliber rules same, optics should be period correct but this isn't always possible. Winners for Sniper will be titled for whatever range(s) they choose.
SUMMARY
When finished, post your story, and the details of your chosen gun along with your score(s) and the range(s) fired. You can update your scores and shoot as many targets in any range class before the submission deadline of midnight, Sunday September 18th 2011.
There will be acknowledgements for best antique if we get one (1898 and earlier, as per Canada's cutoff, whether the gun is a legal antique or not this date will be used) and for best long range scorer, whatever the longest range fired may turn out to be. Hopefully, we get some interested parties, this is an easy shoot to take part in and will be a lot of fun. Years back I organized a 200 yard rimfire online tournament that proved very popular. Now there's a lot of us milsurp shooters here... show yourselves and your guns!
