CGN Ultra frequent flyer
In the spirit of my first 200 yard .22LR postal shoot, and Brobee's current monthly battle rifle postal shoot, I'd like to introduce a monthly Milsurp postal shoot. Every month, the scenario will change, but the gear will remain the same; any milsurp rifle introduced into service before 1950 (so rifles made after 1950 are legal as long as the model entered service prior to 1950, such as the SKS), in a centerfire caliber, with issue sights. The idea is to pit the rifles against each other in different scenarios, so stock rifles are encouraged.
Rifles made purely commerically are discouraged, such as the AIA's, as it's not really in the spirit of a milsurp match. The shoot will be based on the honor system, cheaters are only cheating themselves and I know we're better than that here, with the target you wish to submit being either pictured digitally and sent to me for scoring or mailed to me if you do not have a digital camera.
Email me at angusmo@gmail.com with your CGN handle in the title and I will send you the target file as a Word attachment to be printed on standard 8.5"x11" paper. If you don't have a printer, I can mail you targets. Once you've finished shooting and wish to submit a target, send me a clear picture of the target and I will officially score it, post the picture here if you are so able but I will still have to score the target and will need an email copy. Once the month is over and all entrant's targets are submitted, I will post the results for the month.
Rules for the October 2007 Match:
Rifle (same for every match): Milsurp rifle introduced into service before 1950 (so rifles made after 1950 are legal as long as the model entered service prior to 1950, such as the SKS), in a centerfire caliber, with issue sights.
Target: As supplied by me, see email instructions in 2nd paragraph. When finished, write your CGN handle, date, location, and rifle info on the target before submitting.
Range: 200 yards
Method: Rifle rested on a soft rest, such as a backpack, bedroll, or rolled parka. No hard rests, mechanical rests, or bipods. Shooter is to lay down to shoot, as if prone, resting the rifle on the soft rest. The idea is to emulate a field sniper position. Buttstock may be supported, but must be by a soft material such as a sweater, no sandbags or lead beanbags.
Rounds fired: 10 per target
Attempts: Unlimited, but lets keep it reasonable, only one target can be submitted, but posting attempt targets here does not count as a submission, only the target you email to me will be used for your final score. Please, show us your attempts and progress! Try a bunch of different rifles and see what works best, then submit your best work.
Scoring: Following Brobee's lead in his battle rifle shoot, one bonus point for a picture of you shooting the match with your rifle. Rounds on the 8.5"x11" paper are scored as 2 points. Rounds that strike the black, breaking it in any way even partially, are scored as 5 points. Rounds that strike the white center bull, breaking it even partially, are scored as 10 points. Remember, 10 shots per target, therefore the near impossible perfect score would be to shoot a 100.
Notes: REMEMBER, this is a very challenging shoot with a milsurp, even scoring just low points from hitting the paper alone will get you in good standing for this match, and hitting a 8.5"x11" zone at 200 yards would be a clean sniper kill in the field, so don't hesitate to send in your targets no matter what you think of them. There's a good chance I myself will be posting an "on paper only" target. Next month's shoot will be shorter, likely 50 yards off hand but I have yet to come to a final decision.
Here's a picture of the target for this match for your curiousity (black is 5 1/4", white bull is 1 1/2"), remember to email me for your printable copy:
