I hate hemmies on my muzzle crown, but I love making that special 1-item purchase at the pharmacy. 
One extra note on bore-snakes- i bought one for a 17 HMR savage I own, and its a royal pain to get the brass weight through the bore because it's so light and hangs up on any bit of crud. The next size up I own is a .30 cal boresnake. No problems there. Does anyone have any size in between? .22 cal?
