Anyone know of an aftermarket finish (whatever-coat) that mimics the look of the electroless nickel plating on the Marine Magnum 870s? I'd like to make my shotgun more flexible by purchasing at least two more barrels, but it would bother me if I had a blued barrel on a nickel receiver.

considered the same thing, choose to just buy a Hatsan Marine Guard. Of course now liking the Hatsan I "need" to buy the MPA. The Shotguns from Turkey are pretty darn good.

Couldn't you just buy the barrels you want and have them nickel plated?? Not sure of the cost involved, but then you's have the same protection on everything

It seems to be prohibitively expensive; the DIY home kits are pretty pricey, I can't imagine how much more it would cost for a professional to do it.

Any special, legal considerations to make with regards to refinishing firearms parts? I was also previously (and potentially still) having the grip frame of my Ruger Single Six stripped and brass plated, however it is a restricted firearm and carries different legal obligations. Would I need to get an ATT to transport a grip frame of a restricted firearm (whilst keeping the rest of it legally stored in my house) for refinishing?

Plating a Barrel will be up to the discretion of the company doing the plating (parts are parts). If they are willing to do that work ask them about the frame , then you'll need STATT for the drop off and pickup. Also I would call the CFO to see if there is anything else that needs to be considered (IE the shop being in position of a restricted).

I just coated a pistol in Cerakote titanium finish yesterday. It is similar to The Remington Marine coat colour but not an exact match. You would be able to see the difference. It is hard to beat Cerakote for durability. Some of their other silver colours might match a little better.

If it's the frame of a gun restricted or non the company will have to have a business firearms lic and all the inspection and storage bs that gos with it
I have an electroless nickle plating shop one block from my house but the owner will work with me on the paperwork

On a related note, any plans on another run of electroless nickel plated single point sling plates?

I just had a rifled barrel nickel plated for my 870 Marine. Looks exactly like the finish on the rest of the gun, they did a fantastic job. The downside is price; $160.
Send me a PM if you're interested in who did the work. My guess is they won't do anything with a serial number though, it's an aerospace plating business.
