Can't please everyone. My son was hunting with me from the first time he asked to go. He was about four at the time. That boy could spot grouse forever. We would be heading home with a load of firewood at track speed and he would point them out in the bush on the fly. The girls were never interested. Too bad because my count went way down when the boy went off to work. Keep up the good work, Dad.

I sure hope the person who filed the complaint realizes what a heaping P.O.S they are. Takes the fun and comradery out of this forum. Somebody posts a positive hunting outing with his daughter and it gets tore apart by some pud wrestling keyboard warden. Is it jealousy? Whats the rationale? Guess its back to bear defense and "is ____ big enough to hunt _____" threads. SMH

So let me get this straight. The OP got in trouble because:

1. someone else did not agree with lessons he was teaching his child
2. OP or his child broke no laws or even rules
3. has different morals than some other person

Am I missing something?

The law was broken...... most of us chose to look past it...... one of us didn't....

I like that...... I plan to steal that line.... :)

LOL,be my guest. It's an old autoworker phrase when someone really screwed up. "Someone broke the law" is really debatable because unless something is clearly defined as illegal, then it's not. In Ontario,it's a huge "gray area" under the FWCA,not clearly defined,at all. In all the years I was in law enforcement,I never saw a CO or Police Constable question a parent when the kids were quite clearly hunting with them. Nobody ever wanted to kick the lid of that can of worms and no Crown Attorney would ever agree to pursuing a charge.

Well..... pursuant to the fish and game act so to speak....... I am no lawyer of course.... lol.....

Let's just say "broke the regulations"..... lol

I know I said I was not going to respond to anything els however I am going to clarify something. But first, I like that wording Superbad lol

There is a dual firearms and wildlife law/regulation in regards to someone shooting animals with firearms without performing a firearms course. The law is intended for people old enough to perform the required tests. My 7 year old under supervision is more than capable of being safe in the manner I allow her to shoot under my close supervision, my 7 year old however would not be able to perform a practical test "safely" due to the size of firearms in relation to her body size. So yes.... a regulation was broken. What a charge would be I am not really sure, would it hold up in court with my situation, highly doubt it.

Unfortunately this hunting forum is frequented by anti-hunters - how pathetic one's life has to be to spend time cruising threads about something you don't agree with is beyond my comprehension but you don't have to look at too many threads before you see some pretty stupid anti-hunting posts.

In Ontario, anyone who hunts has to have passed the ohep (Ontario hunter education program). Anyone who wants to hunt with a gun must also pass their CFSC aka PAL. This goes for young and old alike. In order for my 13 year old daughter to turkey hunt with a shotgun this spring she had to pass both of these courses AND I had to be present AND she cannot get her own tags (she must use mine) until she is 15 years old when she will be able to purchase tags under her own name.

I suffered a similar fate as the OP. A few months ago I submitted a fantastic picture to Ontario Outdoors - a gorgeous picture of a confident 13 year old girl with a huge smile holding her first bird and her shotgun with a backdrop of splendid fall colours. The editor emailed me back and said that the picture was fantastic but couldn't be used! The reason? Well as a minor she has to be under the care and control of her mentor (me) and even though I was standing at arms length from her I wasn't in the picture and as such it might appear to some to be breaking the law. Ridiculous but it is what it is.

I applaud the op for involving his daughter in our wonderful pastime and know that he will continue to do so regardless of what the little people of the world think.

^ I echo what Runningfool said, it was some idiot that would have reported this to the MNR and...

Disgusting IMHO as the Shooting Sports & Hunting are being attacked on all fronts. Sad

It's all good in my books man....... I shot my first rabbit at 4 and I won't tell you when my two boys shot their first animals....... in case Dudley Doright decides to report me too...... lol ....

Not sure where you are in eastern Ontario, but you may want to consider joining Grenville fish and game with your daughter... great facilities, great programs for kids and dirt cheap....... in fact, if you are close enough to make the drive, you and your daughter would be welcome as my guest for a day.......

Even tho we have a number of Liberals on this board I am sure it was not a member of this community who complained but the anonymous trolls.

Agreed...... and that person should have at least had a big enough set of stones to deal with it either 1:1 with OP instead of reporting it to the mods and retreating their safe space......

I imagine that this thread will get locked / disappear at some point, and I understand that...... but great job by the CGN crew in letting it stay open for a while...... I hope OP gets that the majority of us are behind him.....

This has my curiosity up... what happened here? Did someone complain about a 7 year old shooting a rifle? My kids started on small game at 4 years old... so alot of my photos would get banned also...

Well I took WAYYY to long to type this out.... but either way

So from myself to the people that refuse to mind their own business about petty crap. Beat it. Go get a job in By Law Enforcement so you can be professionally petty.

We must expect that when posting anything on the inter web that the bleeding heart gangs will challenge and complain without even knowing the facts or laws. It's sad and frustrating but when the authorities show up at your residendence to ask questions and you are positively in the right just ask them to respectfully hit the road.....with a smile of course.

welcome to modern society...... a place where alot of people feel they no longer fit in..... People can't even raise there own kids but want to control how you raise yours...
coming soon ... don't teach your kids to fish.. as it will offend someone especially if your child kills the fish to eat it... god help us all!!

I sort of get it, but not really. I am very careful of what I post on the "Web". There are a lot of jealous and petty people out there so I like to keep this 100% above board. Even more so with firearm and hunting related issues because I'm a Hunter education and firearms instructor. So I'll try to keep it as PC as I can. Every year we have a handful of students that come into out Hunter education program that have had a lot of "Home tutoring" from their parents. These young adults usually are the best behaved, most knowledgeable and safest students we have. They are a pleasure to instruct and it's their parents are the ones that always appreciate us the most. I commend any parent who takes the time to pass this skill and knowledge down to their children.

Well O.P., thanks for the opportunity as short lived as it was, to have a view of a remarkable memory.

Thank you and your daughter.............
