Mini 14 223 lovers

Well, as fun as this rifle is, i decided that its just too heavy. I'm not a fan of heavy guns. So I sold it an bought a regular stainless synthetic ranch rifle and wow do I like it.
Its much more compact and light weight and so far it shoots pretty good too. I ordered a rail for it too. Not sure if I'll mount my red dot or a low power optic. It'll likely get the red dot first cause that's what I have on hand.
After sighting it from 40 yards I tried my match bullets from the same distance using the factory peep sights while resting on my elbow on the trucks hood and printed a 1.75" group. 3 of those shots went in to .75". I'm looking forward to trying it out at 100 yards.

If I were to do it again today, I would probably go with the standard Ranch model over the Target as well. The ones I have played with were very close to the Target in accuracy, and much nicer to carry and handle. I'd then install either a strut or a scout-type handguard. Even if you don't want to use a scout scope, those handguards clamp tightly to the barrel and seem to increase rigidity and accuracy a useful amount.

Today I installed a smaller gas bushing. Hopefully it wont throw the brass a mile now.
This ranch rifle is only 3.5" longer than my 14.5" CQA with the stock fully extended. My wife also likes the ranch rifle. It fits her much better than standard length rifles.

Here’s how I have mine set up.
