lately ive been eyeing a mini-14 since the bad rep has been slowly going away, its non-restricted, and from the sounds of it, it can out shoot an AR with a bit of practice and the right mods done to it.

You guys feel like showing off your mini's and telling how they shoot!

Is it true they are very inaccurate with any "Sustained" fire?...What ever that means? Probably 187 & earlier models with the 'Pencil Neck' ..is it really that bad??

Mine shoots 6" groups at 200yards. Not the best rifle for accuracy but fun to shoot.
Also has the thin barrel so temperature afects point of impact.

Only ever sold one gun in my life, you guessed it an early Mini 14. I was a pre Ranch Rifle era that I scoped . At times you would get a group looking like it might go 1 1/2 inches and then a flyer would open it to 3 or 4. Never again, buddy have an AR back then you could hunt with them, should have got one of them.

I love how light & functional the Mini 14 is,(for outdoor/bush carry) but with so many of the earlier models around, makes me worry to rely on one for a Go to all around outdoor/ NR Semi-Auto Bush gun etc., possible future coyote- or similar sized game gun & predator protection. Does anyone know if the barrel 'Harmonizer' thing (attachment) works to improve the accuracy, Esp. under a more sustained type of shooting scenario? Say an all day target shooting venture? I haven't shot one personally enough to know how accurate they are beyond a couple shots, but, I really like the weight/feel etc. & haven't seen my friends have any malfunction, I like it, but I still wonder if it is worth it to get an older model if the price is fair, (off a friend), or look for something else..? Really seems like a Hit or Miss from what I'm reading. Hmmmm

Both my Mini 14 and 30 shoot pretty decent out to 100 yds. The 14 can shoot a little further before your group spreads too much. But I will say, they are a hoot to shoot.

Wanted one for 25+ years, and I just returned my BNIB 582-###### serial # Mini-14 (stainless) to my LGS. It had a bucket list of issues, (both cosmetic and fit) that actully made me decide I did not want to fire it. They sent if off to the Canadian distibutor and they laughed at them. I know they have tons of backorders and demand, but eventually that will come back to bite them in the butt.

I have owned many mini 14's and a couple mini 30's. They are not the world's most accurate guns, but they are dead reliable and handy. I had one that was surprisingly accurate. The new ones are moderately more accurate and the integral scope mounts are nice. Worth having one.

I have used mimi14's for years. You get what you pay for. The mini14 isn't a target rifle and wasn't built as such. But, for the price, they work well and are a fun gun to shoot. I have replaced the factory op rod spring with a wolf gunspring one. It work's a lot better.

Also worth noting is the new ones are coming with a rail that can be screwed onto the mounts if you don't want to use the factory rings. Thought that was a nice touch when I opened the box of my new mini-14 a few months ago.

How about the Stabilizer? Anyone tried with/without it? I realize the 'newer' ones(Minis) have thicker barrels... hell, I even found online that 'they. will replace Older model barrels. .. & if yours had, a "Stamp" to show they replaced it. If the Harmonizer fixes this, an overheated barrel,(less accuracy) Please let me know!

Thanks,
& Cheerz .. ~

Here's one. First new rifle I ever bought.....saved up for it, had been drooling over it in the S.I.R catalogue for years. It now lives back in its original folding stock, and the silly red-dot was just an experiment. Never was a real accurate rifle, but I have plenty of others for that. It has served faithfully as a go-to truck gun for 25 years now. I don't think I've ever owned anything more fun to shoot.

Niice, an original Factory Folder, & in stainless! Love the whole A Team look :D Still looking for an Original Factory Folder though, Almost snagged one in a shop in Lindsay ON. for only $550! They obviously didn't know what they had, but it was gone the next day :(.

With some luck, it is very possible to get a mini 30 that shoots as well as a $200 SKS. But the ruger comes with a scope mount system and the SKS doesn't. That's worth the $800 difference right there.

I just like the stainless option. Not too many non restricted semi autos that you can come in from the outside on a freezing cold day and not care if it is all frosted up or wet.
